Contentment, practicing true discipline, not abandoning the precepts, denouncing desires, abandoning nirvana and all possessions, being fearless and without expectations. This is called living in the forest, which means living in a monastery or doing these things. Contentment is truly rejoicing. Practicing and guarding discipline means not abandoning it. Denouncing means loathing. Abandoning all possessions means abandoning all possessions. Being fearless and without expectations means having a fearless mind and not relying on anything, because there is no fear and no shrinking back. The ten aspects described below also follow this, so completely practicing these ten is the fourth (bhumi). Cutting off intimacy with friends and attachment to home, staying away from noisy places, cutting off self-praise and disparaging others, cutting off the ten unwholesome paths of action, cutting off pride and conceit and distorted views, cutting off doubt and tolerating afflictions. If these ten are completely abandoned, the fifth bhumi can be truly attained. Intimacy refers to householders and renunciants. Attachment to home means going home and doing worldly things. Noisy places refer to various different conversations. Praise means to praise. Disparaging means to insult. Paths of action refer to the paths of karma. Pride means thinking oneself superior. Conceit means not bowing to the gurus with the body. Distorted views mean holding onto distorted meanings. Doubt means hesitation. Tolerating afflictions means further strengthening the habits of attachment, anger, and ignorance, these are intimacy and so on. Generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, each in a perfectly complete way, for disciples and solitary realizers, abandoning the mind of joy and fear, not being intimidated when begged, not being displeased even when giving up all possessions, and not abandoning begging even in poverty, by this one can truly attain the sixth bhumi. The so-called perfection of each of the six perfections refers to these six. Feeling joy for the Shravakas, feeling joy for the Pratyekabuddhas, completely abandoning the mind of fear, these are three. The mind of not being intimidated when begged, the mind of not being displeased even when giving up all possessions, and not
