Not entering the path of the earth. Understanding what is called a demon is recognizing the demon that obstructs the path to enlightenment. Briefly showing the signs of the path of seeing: The patience of the path of seeing, and the four moments of knowing, are to be known as the characteristics of a Bodhisattva who does not regress. Extensive explanation: The reversal of perceptions such as form, a steadfast mind turning away from the lesser vehicle, the complete exhaustion of limbs such as various inverted meditations, the nature of lightness of body and mind, skillful means of enjoying desires, the nature of constant pure conduct, the nature of pure livelihood, for those who sever aggregates etc., possessing assemblies and freedoms etc., warfare, stinginess etc., in conjunction and subsequent conjunction, abiding in separate prohibitions, and the fact that even a speck of dust is not perceived in the Dharma. Whatever abides in the three realms, its own certainty, giving up life for the sake of the Dharma, such sixteen moments are to be known as the characteristics of a Bodhisattva who does not regress. As such, the reversal of perceptions such as form is the reversal of perceptions from form to omniscience. This is the chapter showing the signs of the path of application, the fortieth chapter. A steadfast mind is when the evil demon causes the Bodhisattva's faith to regress, and all-knowing wisdom is like the sky. Although it is said that there is no real thing, why practice the paramitas for that purpose? Although all dharmas are without inherent existence, for the sake of sentient beings who have not realized this, the paramitas etc. are practiced with a steadfast mind. Turning away from the lesser vehicle means calling a Bodhisattva who turns away as non-regressing. Calling non-regressing as regressing means turning away from the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, hence it is regressing. The complete exhaustion of the limbs such as meditation means the four dhyanas, the four immeasurables, and the four formless realms, because one has entered the path of enlightenment, one does not completely grasp the fruit, and does not manifest the Stream-enterer fruit etc. The nature of lightness of body and mind means not regarding form to Buddhahood as important. Skillful in enjoying desires means that although the Bodhisattva dwells in a house, with skillful means, in order to fully ripen sentient beings, he shows closeness to the qualities of desire etc.

Always practicing celibacy means constantly and continuously practicing celibacy, and even if the three thousand great thousand world realms are filled with the seven precious substances, there is no attachment. Protecting the Dharma means that yakshas, Vajrapani, and others constantly follow. Pure living means not begging with women, not performing magic tricks with sons and daughters, or with longevity, etc. The actions of severing the aggregates, etc., are that when a Bodhisattva engages with a consort, they do not engage in or follow the actions of the aggregates and realms, because they realize that the aggregates, etc., are empty. They do not strive to engage in the speech of kings, etc., because they abide in the emptiness of their own nature and do not correctly follow good or bad. The actions of thieves are that, because of the emptiness of their own nature, there is no taking or stealing. The actions of military speech are that there is no love or hatred for the nature of reality. They do not dwell on the actions of village speech, because it is the correct boundary and there is no increase or decrease. Stinginess, etc., do not dwell on actions that are contrary to the six perfections. Where does one abide in the three grounds? The example is that stream-enterers, etc., have no doubt about their own ground. Having certainty about oneself means that Bodhisattvas have no doubt about their own ground. Dharma is that not seeing even a speck of dust is the reason. Giving up one's life for the Dharma means not caring about one's body or life for the sake of the Dharma. The forty-first chapter on the signs of non-retrogression. From the path of meditation, there are nine types of non-retrogression: profoundly teaching, being free from exaggeration and slander, the example of familiarizing with it and the nine great sources of merit, that it is a conventional teaching and not an ultimate one, that increase and decrease are not appropriate for things that cannot be expressed, accomplishing enlightenment as it is, arguing about it, and answering with the eight profoundnesses. The first profoundness is, how is the suchness of form, just like that, profound. If asked how suchness is profound, the answer is that in the suchness of form there is no form, from form
