Making the place pure. I will also turn the wheel of Dharma, this is the supreme Dharma. Its benefit is that from its form to omniscience, there will be no obscurations. Why? Because from the beginning, from form to omniscience, it has never been grasped. This is the thirty-ninth chapter on the distinction of the precepts of the Bodhicitta. A brief indication of the signs of non-retrogression: Starting from the limbs of ascertainment, in the paths of seeing and meditation, whichever Bodhisattva abides, that is the sign of non-retrogression. These aspects have been explained. A brief indication of the signs of the path of application: The signs of turning away from form, etc., are explained in twenty aspects. Abiding in the limbs of ascertainment is the characteristic of non-retrogression. Extensive explanation: Turning away from form, etc., and eliminating doubt and not being tired, abiding in goodness oneself, and also placing others in it, having the wisdom of giving that relies on others, and having no doubt about the profound Dharma. Not associating with the five obscurations such as loving body, etc., destroying all latent tendencies, mindfulness and awareness, clean clothes, etc., and no insects appearing on the body. Subduing the mind without deception, without taking and stinginess, etc., acting in accordance with Dharma, seeking hell for the sake of sentient beings, not being seduced by others, realizing that the demon who shows other paths is called a demon, and acting in a way that pleases the Buddhas. With these twenty signs, the Bodhisattva who abides in the heat, peak, forbearance, and supreme Dharma positions should be known as the characteristic of non-retrogression. It is said that turning away from form, etc., means that it does not exist from form to omniscience. Why? Because there is no self-nature in any place where one will abide. Eliminating doubt means not looking at the faces of non-Buddhist ascetics and Brahmins, not purifying them with auspiciousness and good omens, and not prostrating to other gods, etc. Eliminating non-leisure means not being born in the eight non-leisure places, and women and the ninth place. Abiding in goodness oneself and also placing others in it means that one has abandoned the ten non-virtuous deeds and also causes others to abandon them. Even in dreams, one does not do evil.

If one does not enter into the fire, what need is there to mention the ashes? To give away something that depends on others is to dedicate the six perfections and the twelve divisions of scripture for the sake of others. Having no doubt about the profound Dharma means having no hesitation because one has not truly seen from form to omniscience. Loving-kindness and so on means possessing gentleness of body, speech, and mind. Not associating with the five obscurations means not having desire for sensual pleasures, malice, dullness, excitement and regret, and doubt. Destroying latent tendencies means having no latent tendencies in any way. Being seized by mindfulness and awareness means not being led astray by a confused mind when walking or coming, and so on. Cleanliness of clothes and so on means that there is no fault to be found in the clothes. Clean and without foul odor, and with few illnesses. Not having worms arise in the body means that the human body has eighty thousand kinds of worms that devour it, but due to the supramundane roots of virtue, they do not arise. Having a mind without deceit means being honest in body, speech, and mind, so there is no deceit. Holding pure vows means not taking up the twelve qualities of purification for the sake of gain and respect, but for the sake of enlightenment. Not being stingy, etc., means not having aspects that contradict the perfections. Proceeding with the nature of Dharma means being steadfast in mind, profound, and listening respectfully. All of this is accomplished through the Perfection of Wisdom and combined with the nature of Dharma. Seeking hell for the sake of sentient beings means that a wicked demon, in the presence of a Bodhisattva, causes the Bodhisattva to be born in a hell for sentient beings, showing many sufferings, heat, and harshness, saying that all irreversible Bodhisattvas will become like this, but they do not abandon the mind of enlightenment. Not being led astray by others means that a wicked demon says to the Bodhisattva, "All the practice you have done before, from the perfections to omniscience, is wrong, you should confess it. What you have attained is not the teaching of the Buddha," but even if they say this, they do not develop doubt, etc. Showing other paths means not relying on the perfections, etc., but approaching the Shravakas, etc.
