Giving the Prajñāpāramitā brings great merit. Sixth, properly attending to it and explaining the true meaning brings great merit. Seventh, the meaning of the Prajñāpāramitā, which is non-dual, non-non-dual, and so on, the absence of duality, brings great merit. Eighth, more meritorious than honoring the Buddhas of the three thousand worlds is explaining the meaning of the Mother. Ninth, not showing the impermanence of the Mother's image, and so on. Son of good family, cultivate the Prajñāpāramitā and do not look at form as impermanent, and so on. And so on. The first praise is to place the sentient beings of the thousandfold great thousand worlds in the stream-enterer fruit. Second, to place them in the once-returner fruit. Third, to place them in the non-returner fruit. Fourth, to place them in the Arhat fruit. Fifth, to place them in the Pratyekabuddha fruit. Sixth, to place them in Bodhi. Seventh, to place them in the irreversible stage. Eighth, it is better than placing them in unsurpassed Bodhi. Ninth, giving the Prajñāpāramitā, complete with meaning and letters, to a sentient being who desires to quickly become a Buddha brings great merit. Why? Because the closer one gets to perfect Bodhi, the more one is nourished by the Pāramitās. This is the twenty-fourth chapter, the chapter on the categories of merit. From this chapter onwards, among the two, dedication and rejoicing, complete dedication is particularly special. Its action is supreme. It is without object, possessing the characteristic of being non-inverted. It possesses the collection of solitude and Buddha's merits, is the object of recollection of self-nature. Possessing skillful means and being without characteristics, rejoicing in the Buddha, and not being included in the three realms, it is the nature of the great arising of small, medium, and large merits. The best of dedication has three aspects. As it is said. The special dedication is what Maitreya said: the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas dedicate for their own benefit, while the Bodhisattvas dedicate for the benefit of others, therefore it is more special. For beginners, if one does not show with characteristics, faith will be lost. For those who have trained in the six Pāramitās, one dedicates in a non-clinging manner. The non-clinging dedication is what Subhuti said: from generating the first thought of enlightenment, to giving, up to the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, all in a non-clinging manner.

This is the dedication. Undistorted dedication is not clinging in this way, nor is it made to appearance, nor is it made to thought, then it is undistorted. Solitary dedication is from form to omniscience, dedicating to the nature of solitude. Dedication to the remembrance of the nature of the Sangha such as the Buddha is to dedicate without clinging to whatever good roots there are of the Buddha and Bodhisattvas and ordinary people. Skillful means dedication is the means to accumulate and so on. Dedication without characteristics is like good food mixed with poison if dedicated with characteristics, therefore dedicate without characteristics. Dedication of following the Buddha's rejoicing is to dedicate following how the Buddhas of the past and so on dedicated. Dedication that does not belong to the three realms is when the Bodhisattva enjoys the mother, from form to omniscience, it does not belong to the three realms, it transcends the three times, it cannot be dedicated in the manner of characteristics or clinging. Why not? Because it has no nature. Whatever has no nature is no thing, because there is no thing, so it is not possible to dedicate no thing. The small of the great merit arising is more excellent than the arrangement of the ten virtues and the four meditations, the four immeasurables, the four formless ones, from the intermediate Stream-enterer to the Solitary Buddha. The great is better to dedicate the Bodhisattva without clinging, without characteristics, without defilement, than to dedicate all sentient beings of the three thousand great thousand worlds with clinging, then the merit is greater. Rejoicing is with skillful means and non-clinging, rejoicing in the roots of virtue, rejoicing in attention, here it is said to be meditation. To rejoice in the roots of virtue of the Buddha and Bodhisattvas and ordinary people in a clinging manner is most excellent than to rejoice in a non-clinging manner. For example, it is more excellent to rejoice in a non-clinging manner than to serve the Thus-gone One of the three thousand worlds. The twenty-fifth chapter, the chapter of rejoicing and dedication. There are five practices, among them, its nature is supreme, it should not be universally manifested to all.
