Those who wish to see should diligently practice the yoga of the Mother. The greatest of the great is that all virtuous dharmas are completely held by the Prajñāpāramitā, and if completely dedicated to the all-knowingness itself, it becomes of one taste, as shown by the example of the shadow of a tree. The twenty-third chapter, the chapter on relics, is complete. This chapter shows the three: praise, reverence, and glorification. In the Prajñāpāramitā, in the states of faith, praise, reverence, and glorification are expressed with three sets of nine things. From that, the first praise is what Indra asked: If one practices the Prajñāpāramitā alone and also gives it to others, which is greater merit? The Buddha replied: You will receive an answer with a question. Which is greater merit, holding the relics of the Tathāgata alone and making offerings, or allowing others to make offerings as well? Indra reported: Giving to others is greater merit than holding it alone, so the Blessed One shattered the vajra body and gave it to sentient beings who can be tamed by relics. The Buddha replied: Likewise, giving to others is greater merit than holding it alone. The second praise is that if it is taught and explained to others in six ways, the merit is greater, and that is the same as the teacher or the place of the teacher. The third praise is placing the sentient beings of Jambudvipa in the ten virtues. The fourth is for placing in the stream-enterer. The fifth is the once-returner. The sixth is the non-returner. The seventh is the arhat. The eighth is the self-awakened. The ninth is that placing one sentient being in the Bodhisattva position is greater merit than placing Jambudvipa and others in the stream-enterer, because with the stream-enterer and others, Buddhas do not appear, but with the Bodhisattva, all virtuous dharmas appear in the world. The first reverence is compared to placing the sentient beings of the three thousand great thousand world realms in the ten virtues, and so on. The second is placing in the four dhyanas. The third is placing in the four immeasurables. The fourth is placing in the four formless absorptions. The fifth is that placing the sentient beings of the three thousand great thousand worlds in the five superknowledges is less than the Prajñāpāramitā.
