This is the meaning of "earth." What are the sixteen? The reversal of perception of form, etc., the stability of mind, liberation from inferior bonds, complete exhaustion of the limbs of distorted meditation, etc., lightness of body and mind, skillful means in enjoying desires, constant celibacy, purity of livelihood, all phenomena that obstruct the aggregates, etc., as well as possessing retinues and power, etc., warfare, stinginess, etc., combining and conforming to, abiding in separate prohibitions, not perceiving even a speck of dust in the Dharma, with self-ground and self-nature, abiding in the three grounds, sacrificing life for the sake of Dharma. Such sixteen moments are the signs of non-retrogression for the wise who abide in the path of seeing. The so-called "reversal of perception of form, etc." refers to the reversal of perception from form, etc., up to the Buddha, which is the forbearance of knowing the Dharma in suffering. What is said from "Thus the Blessed One taught" to "should be known as non-retrogressing" is the first sign of the path of seeing. The so-called "stability of mind" means that it cannot be moved by demons, etc., which is knowing the Dharma in suffering. As stated in the Prajñā Sūtra, "Furthermore, Subhūti," to "will proceed without fault," is its second sign. The so-called "liberation from inferior bonds" refers to the forbearance of knowing suffering accordingly. As stated in the sutra, "From that venerable Subhūti," to "cannot regress from perfect and complete enlightenment," is its third sign. The so-called "complete exhaustion of the limbs of meditation, etc." refers to the limbs of meditation and the formless, etc., which are the body. Its complete exhaustion is purity. Obtaining detachment from desire, etc., and being weak in strength is knowing suffering accordingly. As stated in the Prajñā Sūtra, "Subhūti, furthermore," to "should be known as non-retrogressing," is its fourth sign. The so-called "lightness of body and mind" refers to the conduct with mindfulness and awareness, the lightness of the body, and the body will not become heavy.

Lightness of body and mind, etc., is the lightness and quickness of body and mind. These two are the forbearance of knowing the Dharma of arising in the origin. Whatever is well-manifested, and so on, up to what is said between "knowing without regression," is the fifth sign of it. Enjoying desires with skillful means is for the sake of maturing sentient beings by the bodhisattva householder. Using skillful means to enjoy desires is knowing the Dharma of arising in the origin. Whatever is well-manifested, and so on, up to what is said between "knowing without regression," is the sixth sign of them. Constantly practicing pure conduct is that the bodhisattva householder fills Jambudvipa and other places with seven kinds of jewels and makes offerings, and after constantly practicing pure conduct, Vajrapani constantly follows. This is the forbearance of knowing according to the origin in the origin. Whatever is well-manifested, and so on, up to what is said between the two "knowing without regression," is the seventh sign of it. Pure livelihood is knowing according to the origin in the origin. Whatever is well-manifested, and so on, up to what is said between "knowing without regression," is the eighth sign of it. Aggregates, etc., and so on, combination is the union of calm abiding and insight, which is superior seeing. Combination and subsequent combination, abiding is the object of the mind, which is completely blocked. In what? It means not focusing on the aggregates, etc., at first, which is the abiding of the combination and subsequent combination of the aggregates, etc., and so on. Among them, the separate blocking of the abiding of the combination and subsequent combination of the aggregates, etc., is the proof of emptiness. Why is that? It is because of what is said, etc. That is the forbearance of knowing the Dharma of cessation. Whatever is well-manifested, and so on, up to "not truly seeing accordingly," is the ninth sign of it. Obstacle makers are unfavorable qualities.

What are the dharmas that are in accordance with the direction? That is, because they are in accordance with thieves and are the object of speech, the speech of thieves that is taught is the knowledge of dharma in cessation. That is, from "that speech of thieves" etc., to what is said between "no longer seeing", is the tenth sign of that. The so-called "assembly" is the word for an army, that is, the assembly of the opposing side. This is the forbearance of subsequent knowledge of cessation. That is, from "that speech of an army" etc., to what is said between "no longer seeing", is the tenth and eleventh signs of those. In the so-called "war with power etc.", war is the war between the conforming side and the opposing side. If there is war, then cessation will be obtained. The consciousness that appears as body, place, and enjoyment, the complete cessation is cessation. Among them, the body is the city of the senses, therefore it is spoken of with the word "city". The basis of the body is the place, therefore it is spoken of with the word "city". Enjoyment is the collection of objects, and it is also spoken of with the word "town", in order for the senses to be able to understand it definitively. This cessation is also the attainment of selflessness etc., because they are completely non-existent. Therefore, for the words of war, city, city, and town etc., separately blocking the abiding of combination and subsequent combination, and it is only the speech of the Prajnaparamita, and it is the accomplishment of the abiding of attention to all-knowingness. This is the subsequent knowledge of cessation, that is, from "that speech of war" etc., to what is said between "abiding without separation from attention", is the twelfth sign of those. So-called stinginess etc. Stinginess etc. are the non-compliant aspects of the six paramitas. Whoever possesses the desire for Dharma etc., is the forbearance of knowing Dharma on the path, that is, from "Dana Paramita" etc., to what is said between "should know non-retrogression".
