The meaning of "whatever Dharma is heard" is that all of those, such as "there is no Buddha," are understood through recognizing the nature of reality. However, how is it reasonable that demons show the deeds of hell to those who are pure and irreversible? That is because they seek hell for the sake of the world. Being called "going to hell" is the sixteenth sign for them. "Cannot be led by others" is the seventeenth sign for them. In "showing other nearby paths to the demons, and understanding them as demons," "other" and "path" are other paths. If, in relation to the path, the other itself is close due to the occasion, then it is the meaning of non-path and path. Associating with demons, whatever knows the path itself as the demon itself that speaks of it as a non-path is the eleventh sign. Whatever knows the non-path itself as the path, and recognizes it as the demon itself, is the second sign. The first of these is "Whatever, O son of good family, also," and so forth, and from "made up by the poet himself" to the end of "should be known," that is the eighteenth sign for them. The second is "O son of good family, also," and so forth, and from "eliminate suffering" to what is said at the end of "if you think that is not a place," that is the nineteenth sign for them. "The conduct that pleases the Buddhas" is the twentieth sign for them. The verses that conclude with "The signs are those twenty," and so forth, state that the bodhisattva who abides in accordance with the definitive aspects, symbolized by those twenty signs, is irreversible from perfect enlightenment, which is the meaning of irreversible. Taking into account abiding on the path of seeing, it is said, "On the path of seeing, patience and sixteen moments of knowledge should be known as the characteristics of the irreversible bodhisattva." One should recognize that the bodhisattva abiding on the path of seeing is a sign of irreversibility. How many moments are there of patience and knowledge? Sixteen moments of patience and knowledge.
