It is manifest because of the transformation. Because here, the cause of effort residing in the absence of characteristics in the aspects of enlightenment, truth, and dependent arising, therefore, this is long-lasting. Because here, it is unwavering from the engagement of its own nature and function, therefore, it is unmoving. Because here, the Bodhisattva is excellent by the very fact that the great Dharma is shown by individual, perfectly knowing beings, therefore, this is excellent wisdom. Because here, the Bodhisattva is empowered as the regent of the Dharma, therefore, this is the cloud of Dharma. Why is this called the Mahayana? Because by gradually transforming them, enlightenment is attained. How does it transform? Through skillful means. And what is that? It is truly relying on the two truths. Relying on the conventional truth is for the sake of complete purification, and relying on the ultimate truth is for the sake of seeing all of them without distinction. The teachings and explanations of the order of complete purification are taught in the Sutra itself. The treatises are only brief summaries: 'By ten kinds of complete purification, the first ground will be attained,' this is the meaning of purifying the ten. And what are those? 'Thought and beneficial things, and equanimity towards sentient beings, giving and relying on spiritual friends, seeking the object of the sacred Dharma, constantly the mind of renunciation, and joy in desiring the Buddha's body, teaching the Dharma and the word of truth, are considered the tenth.' Thus it is said, thought is faith and aspiration. Beneficial things are the very desire to benefit all sentient beings. Its cause is equanimity of mind. Giving is the perfection of generosity. Seeking is complete seeking, that is, the term for desiring to seek the Dharma by focusing on the sacred Dharma. Renunciation is renunciation from the household life. Thinking of renunciation is the very desire for it. Joy is to be combined with 'constantly' here. The word of truth means speaking the truth, these are the ten. These are not by nature

By the object of, one should know to be completely purified. These are said to be thoughts and so on. Practicing morality, taming and patience, extreme joy and great compassion, respect, listening respectfully, the eighth is diligence in giving and so on. Among these, morality is the complete purity of morality itself. Patience is the power of patience. Extreme joy itself is extreme joy. Great compassion is because one does not abandon all sentient beings. Respect is for those who deserve respect. Listening respectfully to the lama is to regard the virtuous friend as a teacher. Giving and so on are said to be the perfections. Mentioning the eighth is because the second complete purification is only eight. Never being satisfied with hearing, giving the Dharma without material possessions, purifying all Buddha-fields, never being weary of samsara, being ashamed and having shame, being without pride, these are the five aspects. Among these, hearing is said to be much hearing. Completely purifying is because that merit itself is completely dedicated. Being without pride is said to be because one is not satisfied with it. These five are said to be because the third complete purification is only five. Dwelling in the forest, having few desires and being content, diligently guarding the vows, never abandoning the trainings, reproaching all desires, renouncing and abandoning everything, being fearless and without expectations. Among these, dwelling in the forest is to settle in a solitary place, because that is its result. Being content is to be completely content. Diligently guarding the vows is not abandoning them. Renouncing and abandoning everything is to be disgusted and completely abandon everything. Being fearless and without expectations is to be without fear in the mind and without expectations for all things, being without fear is not shrinking back. The "ten" that will appear below should also be added here. Therefore, the fourth purification is only ten. Closeness and attachment to home, becoming a place of noise, praising oneself and disparaging others, the ten paths of unwholesome actions, being filled with pride and being inverted.
