Detailed Explanation of the Limbs. Detailed Explanation of the Limbs. Chapter One: Explanation of All-Aspects-Knowing. Here, first, the All-Aspects-Knowing itself is to be explained. The first of these is called "The Entity of Generating the Mind." Mind is intention and desire. For example, "wanting to go," "the intention to go," and "the mind to go" are terms used. Generating it is also generating it for the sake of others, because it is supremely distinguished. Taking as its object Perfect and Complete Enlightenment. Therefore, its definition is: "The arising of the mind is for the sake of others; desiring Perfect and Complete Enlightenment." Thus it is said. "Desire," "faith," and "supreme desire" are synonyms. Whoever has the desire for Perfect and Complete Enlightenment is called that. Its entity is this itself, meaning the desire for it. That which is transformed from oneself into another is the other, that is, all sentient beings. Their benefit is benefit, that is, the utterly ultimate nirvana, up to unsurpassed enlightenment. Therefore, it is for their benefit or for their sake. Thus, it is shown to be for the benefit of others. The desire that focuses on Perfect and Complete Enlightenment is the definition of generating the mind. That and that, as in the sutra, are expressed through the means of abbreviation and elaboration. Among these, "as in the sutra" means just like this Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, this which does not deviate from the sutra is the meaning of "definition." If it is said that from that sutra, having abandoned the introductory discourse, the definition of generating the mind is distinguished by four kinds of explanations, and also having divided self-benefit and other-benefit into many kinds, it is said to be the definition of wanting without the need to specifically focus on many objects, then this is not as in the sutra. Therefore, it is said: "That and that, as in the sutra, are expressed through the means of abbreviation and elaboration." In the sutra, "that and" refers to Perfect and Complete Enlightenment itself, which is declared through the first two words by means of abbreviation and elaboration. "That" refers to the benefit of others, which is declared through the following two words by means of abbreviation and elaboration. In the sutra, the benefit of others is also mentioned.
