These are the birth, aging, and death of sentient beings, and so on. It enables complete liberation from these dharmas. From "How does one, Subhuti, then..." to "becomes a refuge," it speaks of the function of refuge. The so-called "place" refers to teaching the Dharma without mixing all dharmas. From "How does one, Subhuti, then..." to "teaches the Dharma without mixing," it speaks of the function of place. The so-called "friend" refers to the ultimate function. From "Whatever is the other shore of form is not form" to "There is no discrimination of the other shore," it is because of teaching the Dharma in this way. From "How does one, Subhuti, then..." to "becomes a friend," it speaks of the function of a friend. The so-called "island" is like an island that is completely separated by water on one side of a river or ocean. Those where the prior and later limits of all dharmas are completely severed are islands, that is, obtaining their emptiness, signlessness, and even nirvana in this way is an island. That which illuminates the darkness of those wrapped in the shell of ignorance is also an island, because it is in accordance with light and Dharma. Furthermore, it is an island in order to obtain an island, that is, a boatman. Its activity is also an island, that is, guiding to the treasure island of nirvana, therefore there are three types of islands. From "How does one, Subhuti, then..." to "becomes a boatman," it speaks of the function of an island. The so-called "guide" refers to generating great compassion, and from form to arhat, teaching the Dharma of no birth, no cessation, no defilement, and no purification. From "How does one, Subhuti, then..." to "will become a guide," it speaks of guidance. Effort is diligence, it is the movement of coming and going. Because that has ceased, it is naturally accomplished, how does one, Subhuti, then...

As it is said, from "named" to "in non-action, neither going nor coming is perceived," the action of spontaneous accomplishment is declared. In the "self that realizes the fruit" of the three vehicles, "all dharmas" refers to those that are defiled and purified. When going and coming are prevented in their respective order, it is the realization of the fruit. The words "dream," etc., refer to the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle; the words "various sufferings," etc., refer to the Hearer Vehicle; and the words "suchness," etc., refer to the Bodhisattva Vehicle. From "Whatever, Subhuti, is the non-arising of all dharmas" to "unwavering, neither going nor coming is perceived," the action of whatever realizes the fruit of the three vehicles is declared. The last is the activity of going. "Going" means obtaining the fruit. That itself is the action, that is, what is said from "Whatever, Subhuti, all dharmas are the nature of form" to "one will have faith in this." This also, the prevention of going is for the sake of obtaining through the manner of non-perception, is the action of going. This is the nature of action. This is the conclusion. In order to know the nature of self-nature, therefore: Afflictions, signs, and characteristics, unfavorable factors and antidotes, solitude, asceticism, and certainty, things to be done, non-perception, prevention of manifest clinging, and whatever is the object, unfavorable unobstructedness and those, baselessness, unarising, non-going, suchness, non-perception, and the sixteen self-natures, by illustrating with examples, it is considered to be the four natures. Thus it is said, the solitude of afflictions is the request. From "Bhagavan" to "becoming the nature of solitude," the self-nature of the solitude of afflictions is declared. The sign is the sign of afflictions, the solitude of those is from "Whatever, Subhuti" to "becoming the nature of solitude through reason," the self-nature of the solitude of the sign of afflictions is declared. The characteristic of afflictions is

All-embracing and so forth. Separated from them, that is, from "What, Subhuti" to "arising in the nature of signlessness," the nature of being separated from the signs of afflictions is explained. Incompatible aspects and antidotes are greed and so forth, and non-greed and so forth. Separated from them, that is, from "What, Subhuti, those Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas are separated from greed and non-greed" to "becoming those who possess nature," the separation of incompatible aspects and antidotes is explained. Difficult, that is, from "Bhagavan, what is requested" to "they are the ones who practice difficulty," the nature of difficulty is explained. Certainty, that is, certainty itself, from "Subhuti" to "seeking armor, yes," the nature of certainty is explained. For the sake of completely liberating all sentient beings from suffering, and for the sake of the self-nature becoming all-knowing, therefore, the armor of diligence is put on. From "The Bhagavan taught" to "has put on armor," the purpose is explained. Non-objectification, that is, from "request" to "practice," non-objectification is explained. Preventing manifest clinging, that is, the absence of manifest clinging, from "Then again" to "in order to be diligent in suchness," the absence of manifest clinging is explained. What is the object? That is, the object is the suchness of all dharmas. It is also without difference, why? Suchness is the suchness of the all-knowingness of the Buddha. From "What is requested" to "the profundity of all dharmas," the nature of the object is explained. Incompatible, that is, difficult for all the world to believe, those dharmas are not taught for the sake of grasping or not grasping. Grasping is the worldly people acting with "I" and "mine." From "sons of gods" to "cannot practice," it is explained that it is difficult for all the world to believe. Unobstructed, that is, form, etc.
