As for the nature of the earth, regarding the Four Noble Truths, this path of the Hearers should be understood from the perspective of not observing characteristics. The term "initially" and so on is the remainder. Its sutra begins with the words " कौषिका (kauśika, कौषिका,kaushika,Kausika)" and extends up to the phrase "Bhagavan." Form and so on have two aspects: the Truth of Suffering and the Truth of Origin. Among these, suffering should be contemplated in four ways: impermanence, suffering, selflessness, and peace. In order, this is because it possesses arising and ceasing, because of its incompatibility, because of the absence of the characteristic of self, and because of being empty of self. Therefore, a corpse is called dead because it is empty of self. Origin should be understood in four ways as something to be abandoned: disease, sores, pus, and sin. In order, this is because it is the cause of suffering, because it is the cause of increasing suffering, because it is difficult to subdue, and because it has the same nature as the cause of suffering in this life and the next. Furthermore, it should be understood in four ways as the meaning of ability: otherness, the nature of destruction, wavering, and complete destruction. Because the self cannot be abandoned, this is otherness. The nature of destruction is because it is destroyed in every moment. Wavering is because the Arhats have eradicated it from the root with various paths. Complete destruction is because it is destroyed by the appropriate path. There are also three meanings of quick accomplishment: like the falling of hail, it is destroyed because it is the continuum of destruction. Because it has the same nature as ghosts and demons, it is an infectious disease. Because it has the same nature as famine and enemy armies, it is harm. Similarly, reversing the order of dependent origination, from the cessation of ignorance comes the cessation of formations, up to the complete cessation of the great mass of suffering. Among these, because it is definitely ceased, it is cessation, which is the Truth of Cessation. Because it is ceased by this, it is cessation, which is the Truth of the Path.
