O. Then, in order to accomplish those unions perfectly, since it is necessary to know the faults, the places that become obstacles are explained. Faults are divided into four sets of ten, and six must be understood with certainty. This is what is to be said. The cause of discouragement and becoming an obstacle is excessive arrogance, and the cause of conceit arising from the rapid generation of incorrect understanding is too rapid, that is, the two related to arrogance. And bad postures of the body such as yawning and stretching, and bad postures of the mind such as distraction and desire, and bad postures of speech such as chanting caused by irrational means such as yawning, that is, the three related to bad postures. And holding outward reasons because they are not prophesied and cannot understand their deep meaning, and declining due to seeking the Tripitaka of the Hearers and being too attached to the cause, and declining due to tasting the abundant taste by being attached to the inferior taste, and declining from universally holding the supreme vehicle by regarding the Tripitaka of the Hearers as supreme, and always declining what should be done by holding what is not the source of jewels as the source of jewels. Because one wants to attain omniscience and learns the inferior vehicle, the connection between cause and effect declines, and because the Tripitaka, which is the basis of inferior qualities, surpasses the unsurpassed, that is, it is related to the cause of decline from the Mahayana. And because the mind that uses other sutras arises, the arrogance of discriminating thoughts towards many objects changes, and because one regards letters as Prajnaparamita, one is too attached to copying letters, and one is too attached to non-existent things by focusing on the sign of non-existence, and one regards the scriptures of copying letters as the mother and is too attached to letters, and one regards non-letters as the mother and is too attached to the absence of letters, and one is disturbed by various thoughts, and one pays attention to places and cities, and one enjoys worldly pleasures, tastes the taste of gain and respect and verses, and seeks skillful means from the Tripitaka of the teachings of the demons, that is, seeking the path by non-path, these are the eight related to the cause of distraction.
