The discipline of abandoning all dharmas that are obstacles to enlightenment, repaying even the smallest kindness bestowed by others, repaying with great deeds as long as samsara exists, enduring all harm, keeping in mind that all dharmas are unborn and inseparable, having no regrets in practicing virtuous dharmas, rejoicing in placing all sentient beings on the three vehicles, great loving-kindness that is not weary of abiding in hell even for each and every being, doing joyful things for all living beings, honoring and serving the holy ones, regarding the virtuous friend as a teacher and truly practicing what he teaches, diligently engaging in the affairs of others and not doing other things, rejoicing in practicing the six perfections such as generosity. Such eight dharmas, through the distinction of having completely purified like the former, attain and perfect the second ground, the stainless. Thereafter, the complete purification of the third ground, which is mainly the perfection of patience, is taught: never being satisfied with hearing, giving dharma without impurity, purifying all Buddha-fields, not being weary of samsara, having shame and embarrassment, and being without arrogance, these are the five. Those who listen to the holy Dharma are never satisfied, and all that the Buddhas have spoken in the ten directions is kept in mind, not looking to gain and so on, extensively teaching the holy Dharma, and not even hoping for the fruit of enlightenment itself, cultivating the corresponding roots of virtue, purifying all Buddha-fields, both the container and its contents, not being weary in mind of repaying kindness with harm and so on, enduring all suffering, not doing unwholesome deeds in relation to oneself and others, abandoning the mind of the Hearer and Solitary Realizer. Such five dharmas do not generate arrogance, and by completely purifying as before, the third ground, the Radiant, is realized and perfected. Thereafter, the complete purification of the fourth ground, which is mainly the perfection of diligence, is taught:

Practice: Living in the forest, having few desires and being content, as well as practicing correct discipline, not abandoning the precepts one has taken, denouncing all kinds of desires, abandoning nirvana and all possessions, not being discouraged and having no views. This is its meaning. Living in a monastery and abiding in solitude with the conduct of the Lesser Vehicle, not having strong desires for unobtained gains, nor seeking enlightenment for one's own benefit, not being dissatisfied when gains are obtained, and not being arrogant or conceited even upon obtaining omniscience, relying on correct discipline, living on alms, possessing the qualities of practice such as the single seat, and having the patience to realize profound Dharma, not abandoning the precepts one has taken, even for the sake of life, and not truly taking all of this to heart, denouncing desires by seeing their faults, and not generating the mind of desire through not clinging to inherent existence, inclining towards nirvana in order to tame beings, and having no fabrication towards all dharmas, not clinging to all possessions, and completely abandoning them, not being discouraged in doing good, and not approaching impure places, not having strong attachment to things, therefore having no views, and having no mental activity. Like this, by completely practicing these ten dharmas as before, one can suppress and perfect the fourth ground, the Radiant Ground. After that, with the perfection of meditation as the main focus, the purification of the fifth ground is taught: Not being intimate with and attached to family, as well as places that are noisy, praising oneself and belittling others, as well as the ten paths of non-virtuous actions, being conceited and perverse due to arrogance, tolerating evil wisdom and afflictions. If these ten are completely abandoned, one can truly attain the fifth ground. This is its meaning. Not being intimate with nuns and others for the sake of gains and so on, nor falsely accepting rebirth, not showing the homes of faithful people to others, nor being jealous of obtaining gains from patrons, not being distracted by the noise of cities and so on, nor being in places where the talk of the Lesser Vehicle and the arising of thoughts
