This is the answer. The reason for this is as follows: For example, the first moment of a candle does not burn the tree, because the subsequent moments would become meaningless. It is not the later moments that burn either, because the earlier moments would become meaningless. However, the continuous burning of the candle burns things, as the candle metaphor states. Similarly, the path of meditation also generates Bodhicitta through continuity. In order to answer the question of surpassing the path of generation, such an establishment was made. Now, the characteristics of the non-returning Bodhisattva Sangha are spoken of: The profound Dharma nature has eight aspects, namely birth and cessation, as well as suchness and knowable objects, knowledge and action, non-duality, and skillful means are profound. Dharma nature is the nature of all Dharmas. Because these eight aspects contradict each other, they are profound through practice. Because the practitioner Bodhisattva abides on the path of meditation, the eight realms of the non-returning Bodhisattva Sangha are profound. Regarding what is said about "what and what," it is "birth" and so on. Birth is profound because even though it is non-dual, there is dependent origination from the beginning of Samsara. Cessation is also profound because even though there is no birth, there is cessation. Suchness is also profound because even though it is its own nature, it exists through meditation. Knowable objects are also profound because even though there is no knowledge, it exists in various ways. Knowledge is also profound because even though there are no knowable objects, there is knowledge. Action is also profound because even though all Dharmas have no action, one practices the actions of Bodhi. Non-duality is profound because even though it is the attachment to duality, it is clearly determined in the non-dual mind. Skillful means are also profound because even though beings are not accomplished, one continuously strives for the benefit of all beings. All of these are not contradictory because they are spoken of through equally relying on the ultimate truth and the conventional truth. These are the trainings of non-returning. Now, in order to explain "existence and peace are equality," it is said: Because all phenomena are like dreams, there is no distinction between existence and peace.

To the objections of having no karma, etc., the answer is as has been explained. That is, "craving" refers to the mind that appears as the aspect of the three realms associated with afflictions. "Peace" refers to the aspect of the three bodies of Dharma, Enjoyment, and Emanation, appearing as a mind free from afflictions. In particular, it is referred to as the perfectly complete Buddha. The absence of difference in them is the inability to distinguish, blessed by emptiness, being merely the nature of appearing in one's own mind, hence it is the meaning of common wisdom. Why is it so? Because all phenomena are like dreams. The appearances of the mind in the state of wakefulness are like dreams. A dream is when one is close to the state of sleep, and the forms of hands, elephants, etc., appear in the mind. All phenomena are also the same as that, far removed from ordinary nature, so realizing that is what is meant by "Buddha." To the objections of having no karma, etc., the answer is as has been explained. That is, all phenomena are like dreams, as it is said in the sutras. Likewise, in a dream, giving and harming in various ways do not become merit or demerit. Likewise, it would be excessive even in the state of not being asleep, which is a refutation. The answer should be understood as it is said in the sutras. As the Bhagavan said, actions arise from having an object, but not from not having an object. In the state of dreaming, it is a mind without an object. Therefore, since it is not established in the continuum of others, it is reasonable that there is no demerit or merit from punishing and benefiting them. But the ordinary state of being asleep is an actual thing, having an unerring object, appearing in the mind, arising from the continuum of others, therefore having an object. As the teacher Vasubandhu said: "Because of the nature of mutual autonomy, the nature of consciousness is definite." That is what it means. Those that are established in the continuum of others in the ordinary state of not being asleep, benefiting and punishing
