And have the merit of generating roots of virtue, the merit of fulfilling the meaning of vows, the merit of completely upholding vast fruits, the merit of thoroughly understanding the meaning of the sutras, and the merit of definitely attaining the six perfections, these are the fourteen merits being spoken of. After explaining the merits of diligent practice, the faults are to be spoken of. What obstructs diligent practice is a fault, and these faults are spoken of as: Faults are divided into ten categories, totaling forty-six, which must be clearly understood. This means that there are forty-six faults, such as obtaining Prajnaparamita after a long time, and the mind being distracted by practicing Prajnaparamita too quickly, and understanding Prajnaparamita. This is also a fault, because it has not been practiced for a long time, like a field whose foundation has not been destroyed, or like lightning, it is unstable because it is swaying. Not listening to Bhagavati-mother etc. leads to physical distraction, mental distraction, and reading etc. due to disbelief etc., holding onto the words of conduct etc. due to distrust of Bhagavati-mother, becoming attached to the cause of obtaining Bhagavati-mother and falling away, the nectar of the supreme Dharma is Bhagavati-mother, falling away from tasting it, holding the Great Vehicle as the most supreme of all vehicles and falling away, and falling away from the actions of entering Bhagavati-mother, this is the first set of ten faults. Being confused about the method of obtaining Bhagavati-mother, having insufficient words, being confused about the excellent points, completely understanding Bhagavati-mother as many different meanings, being attached to not asking Bhagavati-mother, being attached to Bhagavati-mother having no things, being attached to Bhagavati-mother having letters, being attached to Bhagavati-mother having no letters, remembering the situation of beings etc., accepting gain, respect and praise etc., and thinking that the method of obtaining Bodhi, which is not found in the sutras of the Hearers etc., is a skillful path, this is the second set of ten faults. The disharmonious aspects of the Dharma teacher and the listener in teaching the Dharma
