Here, ascertainment refers to the path of seeing, which has the nature of sixteen moments of non-conceptualization. Its limbs are the cause, which becomes more and more distinguished by the nature of meditating on the four aspects. These are, in order, heat, peak, forbearance, and supreme mundane dharma. That is, obtaining heat, obtaining the peak, forbearance, obtaining forbearance, and obtaining the supreme mundane dharma. That which is in accordance with the part of ascertainment should also be spoken of. These also exist for the hearers. They also exist for the Bodhisattvas. Therein, the object of those in accordance with the part of ascertainment of the hearers and so forth are the four noble truths. The aspects are impermanence and so forth. That is, the truth of suffering is characterized by impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. The truth of origin is the nature of arising, the nature of arising from causes and conditions. The truth of cessation is the nature of cessation, peace, excellence, and definite departure. The truth of the path is the nature of the path, reason, practice, and definite departure. These are the objects and aspects of the hearers and so forth. The heats and so forth of the Bodhisattvas each become twelve types by the distinction of small, medium, and large. Which is more distinguished than the heat of the path of the hearers and so forth? In order to show those, it is said: "Object and non-aspect, cause and perfect knowledge, Bodhisattva's protector, heat and so forth are such. Possessing four discriminations, small, medium, and large ones, hearer's rhinoceros horn simile, is more excellent than those." For knowledge, the object and the aspect, and the cause of obtaining all three vehicles, and the characteristics of a virtuous friend who is skilled in means are completely relied upon, and possessing the application of abandoning the four discriminations, the heats and so forth related to the Bodhisattva are more excellent by small, medium, and large. From what is it more excellent? It is said: "Hearer's rhinoceros horn simile, is more excellent than those." That is, the heats and so forth related to the hearers and solitary realizers.

This is about the meaning of "heat." The object and aspect of the minor heat will be explained, that is, the object is impermanence, etc., those with a basis of truth, and the aspect is the cessation of manifest clinging, etc. The so-called "object" refers to the objects of cognition, because it is the object and the realm. "Here" refers to the phenomena of the four truths, such as suffering, and its aspects are the sixteen phenomena such as impermanence, which are the object. The object, that is, for these objects themselves, the cessation of manifest clinging, etc., and the phenomena that are included by the word "etc." that are also superimposed. The so-called "cessation" refers to the mere removal of the subject and phenomena without manifest clinging. Furthermore, the distinction of things is made by the word "non-thing," and the distinction of objects is made by the word "non-object." These should be applied by those who seek reason. Among them, like illusion or not like illusion, this is a distinction of the place of dispute, which will be explained and clarified later. The mere non-existence of everything is not to be admitted. The so-called cause of attaining all three vehicles means that Bodhisattvas, through heat, etc., can also attain the fruit of all three vehicles. Hearers, etc., through heat, etc., can also attain the fruit of their respective vehicles. Next, the object and aspect of the intermediate heat are explained, that is, "form, etc., arising and ceasing" is the object, and "separation from abiding" is the aspect. The arising and ceasing of form, etc., aggregates, sources, and elements is arising and ceasing, and "cessation of abiding" is the object. The word "cessation" is the root of the previous pursuit. The stages where the continuity of expressible words is dissimilar are "separation from abiding," and the stages where the continuity is similar are called "abiding." The clinging to the cessation of separation from abiding and abiding is "abiding." The object and aspect of the great heat are explained, in "imputation and unspeakable," imputation is the object, and unspeakable is the aspect. Its meaning is: form, etc., aggregates, sources, and elements, and all phenomena such as Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, their nature is originally unborn.
