That which does not abide at all times is the supreme combination of non-abiding. Whoever cultivates the path to enlightenment in order to act according to aspirations is the supreme combination of reality and force. Whoever cultivates perfect conduct itself is the supreme combination that is not common to hearers and others. Whoever universally practices the conduct of enlightenment in order to dispel the fears of all sentient beings is the supreme combination of non-attachment. Whoever cultivates the cause of the Buddha in order to show that all imputed dharmas are unattainable is the supreme combination of unattainability. Whoever diligently cultivates the cause of Buddhahood in order to clarify the characteristics grasped by all sentient beings is the supreme combination of no characteristics. Whoever practices the cause of enlightenment in order to establish vows for all sentient beings in the three realms and to bring them to an end is the supreme combination of no wishes. "That of" means non-returning. Whoever indicates and understands it by what, etc., is the supreme combination of signs. Whoever cultivates the cause of enlightenment in order to protect sentient beings with immeasurable realms and times is the supreme combination of immeasurability. By dividing into ten kinds of supreme combinations, skillful means are taught. The explanation of the Continuous Commentary on Manifest Realization, called the Famous Part, ends with the explanation of the fourth chapter. Explanation of the Fifth Chapter In the Peak Manifest Realization, the nine objects, such as "its sign," are briefly shown. From these, it is said for the sake of explaining the signs: "In dreams, all dharmas, like dreams, are viewed, etc., the signs of the combination that has reached the peak, are known to be twelve." This means that the signs of the Peak Manifest Realization are those twelve. Among them, whoever views all dharmas as like dreams in dreams, etc., is one sign. By the sound of "etc.," not generating the mind of enlightenment of hearers and solitary realizers, and not clinging to the three realms, is the second sign. Seeing the Tathagata, etc., in dreams is the third sign. In dreams, from the sky...

Seeing the various miracles of the Buddha is the fourth. Generating the intention to teach the Dharma in a dream is the fifth. Seeing the three lower realms such as hell, and thereby generating the intention to abandon them in one's own Buddha-field is the sixth. In the state of awakening from a dream, if I am someone who has been prophesied by the Buddhas of the past, then may the fire of the city and so on be pacified, and by this true blessing, it is pacified, this is the seventh. If I have a mind of particular faith and joy in perfect and complete enlightenment, then may that non-human go far away from this person, and by this not being a blessing of Mara, but by the true blessing, the non-human flees far away, this is the eighth. Having directly known the characteristics of one's own Buddha and Bodhisattva, relying on a virtuous friend is the ninth. Studying the Prajnaparamita in all ways is the tenth. Not being attached to anything is the eleventh. The enlightenment of the Buddha is near is the twelfth. Thus, there are twelve signs. Having proclaimed the signs of the yogi who has reached the peak, the increase of that is spoken: As many beings as in Jambudvipa, The virtue of the supreme Buddhas and so on, By making examples many times, The sixteen increases are also the nature. This is to say that the distinctions of the state of meditation becoming higher are the aspects of increase. If you wonder how to know the sixteen aspects, it is said, "Jambudvipa" and so on, that is, the merit of offering to as many Buddhas as the number of sentient beings living in Jambudvipa is like that. Making many examples of the virtues of offering to those Buddhas and so on, by dividing the examples into sixteen types, one can understand that there are sixteen types of increase. Among them, contemplating the Prajnaparamita is one aspect of increase. Individually obtaining forbearance of the non-arising of all dharmas is the second. Not focusing on the object of signs and the dharma of the one who realizes is the third. Obtaining the particularly excellent ten virtues and so on is the fourth.
