Manifesting on earth and so on is also the work of demons, which is the description of the forty-six faults. In order to explain the characteristics of perfect combinations, it is said: "That which symbolizes, that is the characteristic. The knowable is also knowledge, difference, agent, and three kinds. Whatever is symbolized is the essence." That is to say, the characteristic that one wants to symbolize, the characteristic that accomplishes whatever it does, is of three kinds: knowledge, distinction, and agent. Whatever is the characteristic to be symbolized is accomplished by that. That is also the nature itself, thus there are four kinds of characteristics. In this regard, considering the aspect of knowing everything, it is said in order to show that the sixteen aspects of self-nature are the characteristics: "The coming of the Tathāgata and, the indestructible nature of the world and, the conduct of sentient beings' minds and, its summary and retrospection and, the aspect of inexhaustibility and, attachment and so on and vastness and, becoming great and immeasurable and, the consciousness that cannot be shown and, the mind that cannot be seen and knowledge, knowable things such as movement and, those others are also, known by suchness. The capable one realizes suchness, it is called the teaching of others, the occasion of knowing everything, is the collection of the characteristics of knowledge." That is to say, the word "knowledge" should be connected to these words with the seventh case ending. "The coming of the Tathāgata and," means knowing that the Tathāgatas are born from the Blessed Mother. "The indestructible nature of the world and," means knowing that the continuity of the worlds remains undiminished. "The conduct of sentient beings' minds and," means knowing the sphere of activity of the minds of all sentient beings. "Its summary and retrospection and," means knowing the distraction and non-distraction of the mind. "The aspect of inexhaustibility and," means knowing the aspect of the mind's inexhaustibility. "Attachment and so on," means knowing the mind with attachment and the mind without attachment and so on. "Vastness," means the mind is vast. "Becoming great and," means the mind that has become the great emptiness, that is, knowing the mind that has become great. "Immeasurable," means immeasurable.
