The thirty-two marks. It is said that they are the characteristics that represent a great being. The thirty-two marks of the Buddha Bhagavan, the Bodhisattvas, and the Chakravartin kings are unique. These excellent marks are also said to be formed by familiarizing oneself with their respective causes. To show this, it is said: What are the marks of this, What are the causes that accomplish them? Those and those are perfectly complete, These marks are truly accomplished. This refers to the Sambhogakaya. By familiarizing oneself with and learning the causes of which marks, those and those marks will become perfectly complete. Powers and fearlessness, etc., are qualities of the mind and are very imperceptible, so it is said that the thirty-two excellent marks themselves definitely indicate the Sambhogakaya. Regarding which causes obtain the marks, it is said: Sending off the Lama, etc., Truly taking what is taught, Gathering, serving, and abundant, Giving objects and saving lives, Liberating those who are bound and virtuous deeds, Truly taking up and increasing, etc., These are the characteristics of the causes of accomplishment, As it appears in the Sutras. Its meaning is this: Sending off the Lamas and welcoming them again, listening to the Dharma, offering flower garlands, etc., offering attendants, making prostrations, etc., to stupas, etc., therefore the palms of the hands and feet are marked with wheels. By relying on the deity of Dharma practice, the feet are well-placed, that is, turtle feet. Giving, speaking sweetly, acting beneficially, and being in harmony, therefore the fingers and toes are connected by webs. By giving excellent food and drink, the hands and feet are soft and supple, and the seven parts of the body are full. By liberating those who are bound, the fingers are long. By protecting life, the heels of the feet are wide. By turning away from taking life, the body is large and upright. By making virtuous roots the deity, the ankles of the feet are invisible. By learning to truly take up virtue as the deity, the body hair

The penis is directed upwards. The word "etc." completely summarizes what is to be said, that is, the reason for offerings and arts, etc., giving alms is like giving to Ridaga Enaya. Because he does not turn back when the wealthy and beggars come, he has long hands. Placing all beings in celibacy, and protecting the secretly entrusted things, so the hidden sheath of the genitals is the most excellent. Because of giving abundant cushions, the color is like pure gold. Because of giving excellent dwellings, the skin is thin. Because of completely abandoning noisy places, etc., the hairs grow to the right one by one. Because the lama or elders stay where they should stay, the face is adorned with a white hair. Because of completely abandoning all harsh words, the upper body is like a lion. In accordance with pleasant words, speaking appropriate words, so the arms are round. Because of giving medicine and other alms, the shoulders are full. Because of serving the sick, even unpalatable food appears as excellent and delicious. Because of giving pleasant forests and gardens, etc., the body is as wide as a banyan tree. Because of giving particularly superior temples, etc., the crown of the head is once again superior. Because of speaking gentle words, etc., the tongue is long and beautiful. Because all sentient beings in the world know the Dharma, it is the Brahma sound. Because of abstaining from idle talk, it is the lion's cheek. Because of truly thinking of all beings, etc., the teeth are very white. Because of living a pure life, the teeth are even. Because of always practicing true speech, the teeth are close together. Because of not being accustomed to divisive speech, there are forty even teeth. Because of seeing all sentient beings as one's only child, the eyes are wide and high. Because of showing aversion to anger, etc., the eyelids are like excellent viewing. This shows the thirty-two major marks of a great man with causes. Now, in order to show the eighty minor marks, it is said. The Buddha's nails are copper-colored, the color is moist and high, the fingers are round and full, slender, the veins are not visible, there are no knots, the ankles are not visible, the soles of the feet are flat, a lion
