It is understood by the speech of mind, only those who desire perfect enlightenment. What is it? It is said: The arising of the mind is for the sake of others, desiring perfect and complete enlightenment. This is the act of desiring perfect and complete enlightenment. What should be done? It is said: For the sake of others. This "other" refers to all sentient beings, different from oneself. For their benefit, to completely liberate them from samsara and the causes of samsara, and to establish them in the state of Buddhahood and the causes of Buddhahood. For the benefit of beings, desiring perfect and complete enlightenment, this is the true meaning of generating the mind of enlightenment. As the Blessed One, in the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, explained the meaning of desiring perfect and complete enlightenment in brief and in detail, and all of this was said for the benefit of others. Similarly, I will also explain it here in accordance with the scriptures, as it is said in the scriptures: According to the meaning of the scriptures, in brief and in detail. Meaning, in accordance with the scriptures, not arbitrarily. After explaining the nature of generating the mind of enlightenment, now the various distinctions are explained. It is also like earth, gold, and the new moon, treasure, jewels, source, sea, vajra, mountain, medicine, spiritual friend, wish-fulfilling jewel, sun, song, king, treasury, and great road, vehicle, adorned water and people, melodious sound, river, and clouds, thus there are twenty-two. It is said, this is the arising of the mind, corresponding to desire and so on, generating all white dharmas, and like the earth and so on of all dharmas such as holding, one should understand its twenty-two distinctions. Therefore, the arising of the mind with a small desire is like the earth, because it can serve as the basis for the seeds of all white dharmas and can hold them. One with medium desire is like gold, because it does not change or perish until enlightenment is attained. One with great desire is like the new moon, because it grows every day. The arising of the mind with the path to enter the first ground is like fire, because it can burn the obscurations of the three

Therefore, it is like this. The perfection of generosity is like a treasure, because it satisfies all sentient beings. The perfection of discipline is like a source of jewels, because it is the basis for the arising of all virtuous jewels. The perfection of patience is like a great ocean, because it is not disturbed by any adverse harm. The perfection of diligence is like a vajra, because it cannot be separated from the meaning of the desire for firm belief by other causes. The perfection of meditation is like Mount Sumeru, because it does not move from the object of distraction. The perfection of wisdom is like medicine, because it can pacify all diseases of afflictions and cognitive obscurations. The perfection of skillful means is like a virtuous friend, because it never abandons the benefit of sentient beings at all times and places. The perfection of aspiration is like a wish-fulfilling jewel, because it can obtain the result according to the aspiration made. The perfection of power is like the sun, because it can ripen all the seeds of those to be tamed. The perfection of wisdom is like the sound of a beautiful song, because it teaches the Dharma that leads sentient beings to enter. If one possesses clairvoyance, it is like a great king, because one can accomplish the benefit of sentient beings without hindrance. If one possesses the accumulation of merit and wisdom, it is like a treasury, because it is the basis for many accumulations of merit and wisdom. If one possesses the Dharma of the aspects of enlightenment, it is like a wide road, because it is the place where all the Buddhas have gone and followed. If one possesses great compassion and wisdom, it is like a vehicle, because one does not fall into the extremes of samsara and nirvana, and happily enters the nirvana that does not abide in samsara. If one possesses dharani and correct knowledge, it is like a decorated river, because it can endlessly remember all the Dharma that has been heard and not heard. If one possesses the Dharma of generosity, it is like a lute, for those who desire liberation.
