That this path of meditation is not meaningless is established by the statement, “Accomplishing the nature of the activity of cessation of afflictions and the arising of enlightenment.” However, how should enlightenment itself be, and how should this path of meditation be realized? In response to this, it is said: “Enlightenment is suchness by nature, and that is also established as its nature.” That is, this suchness is emptiness. Nature is self-nature. Whatever path of meditation is, that is also its nature. Whatever has such a self-nature, its nature is also such. Although enlightenment is emptiness, it accomplishes all the meanings that appear conventionally. Likewise, this path of meditation also has the meaning of abiding. If enlightenment is accomplished, then it can be used as an example, but what is not accomplished should not be used as an example. To show this, it is said: “The mind, the former, becomes enlightened.” etc. Enlightenment is the non-conceptual wisdom that directly realizes all phenomena in every way. That is also the nature of the path of meditation, and it should be understood as an accumulation of conceptual thoughts. Conceptual thoughts are not established simultaneously, because there is no accumulation at one time. Nor do they act separately in sequence, because each of them is a cause, and the others would become meaningless. This objection has been abandoned as commonly accepted. It is said: “The mind, the former, becomes enlightened, not by the latter, which is of a different kind.” In this regard, briefly, the former mind of the path of meditation does not generate enlightenment, because the latter would become a meaningless fault. Nor is it generated by the latter, because the former of the path of meditation would become a meaningless fault. Therefore, it is very difficult to generate enlightenment, which is a refutation. It is said: “In the manner of the example of a lamp flame, enlightenment is gradually achieved.” This is the answer. The meaning of this is as follows: For example, the first moment of a lamp flame does not burn a tree, because the latter would become a meaningless fault. Nor is it burned by the latter, because the former would become a meaningless fault. However, the continuity of the lamp flame burns, as said by the example of the lamp flame. Likewise, the path of meditation should also be like that.

I generate Bodhicitta with constancy. Having made distinctions by answering the previous questions that surpassed the path of generation. Now, the characteristics of the Sangha of non-returning Bodhisattvas are explained: The profound Dharma-nature has eight aspects, namely, birth and cessation, suchness and knowable, knowledge and action, non-duality, and skillful means are profound. This is the Dharma-nature, which is the self-nature of all Dharmas. Whichever of these eight aspects are practiced in contradiction to each other, hence they are profound. That Bodhisattva who practices, abiding on the path of practice, therefore the eight realms of the Sangha of non-returning Bodhisattvas are profound. To whom and to whom is it said, that is, it is said to birth and so on. Birth is profound, although there is no duality, there is dependent origination from the beginning of Samsara. Cessation is also profound, although it is not born, there is cessation. Suchness is also profound, although it is its self-nature, it is practiced. The knowable is also profound, although there is no knowledge, it abides as such. Knowledge is also profound, although there is no knowable, there is knowledge. Action is also profound, although all Dharmas are without action, the action of Bodhi is practiced. Non-duality is also profound, although it is the imputation of duality, it is clearly determined in the mind of non-duality. Skillful means are also profound, although beings are not accomplished, they are constantly not abandoned, doing the meaning of all beings. All of these are not contradictory, because they are equally relied upon in the ultimate truth and the conventional truth. The precepts are the assembly of non-returners. Now, in order to explain the brief statement of "equality of existence and peace," it is said: Because all Dharmas are like dreams, there is no thought of existence and peace, arguments such as no karma, the answer is only laughter. This means that the one with desire is the mind that appears as the aspect of the three realms with afflictions. The peaceful one is the mind that appears without afflictions, having the aspects of Dharma, enjoyment, and the Nirmāṇakāya. In particular, it is called the Samyaksaṃbuddha. There is no wavering in them, which is differentiation.
