Because form and so on are themselves the aspect of emptiness. So how does a Bodhisattva practice the Perfection of Wisdom, which is perfectly encompassed by the Truth of the Path? It is said that one practices without abiding. That is to say, one cultivates it in such a way that one does not abide in any aspect of phenomena, such as persons and forms. Because the Bodhisattva realizes the aspect of emptiness, even in omniscience, he does not grasp or possess it with the characteristics of perceiving it as dharma and possessor of dharma. Therefore, by being free from the afflictions of characteristics, he attains the enlightenment of the Sugatas, which is not shared with the Hearers and so on. The benefit of this is to be understood as dispelling the perception of things as existing even conventionally. All that is shown to exist slightly in such words and so on up to completion is to be understood as being of such intention. This is the smallest of the peaks. The middle is like "How does one wander everywhere in a garland?" and so on. "Has become" means "will become." Consciousness as object refers to being particularly attached to the nature of grasping with distinctions such as outer and inner by worldly conceptual consciousness, that is, not having become like that. The disintegration of the aggregates means not focusing on the aggregates in any way. How it has become like that is to be connected in this way. Therefore, this shows that, as it is said, if a wandering ascetic enters the path beyond the world, preceded by the conceptualization of the worldly path with a limited consciousness, then if he focuses on something, then at that time he will not even gain faith in this, because there is no difference between the path beyond the world and the other paths in the nature of focusing on things. Therefore, the nature of not focusing on things in any way is the way beyond the world, and other than that, it is merely the object of fabricated aspects, and therefore it is worldly because it is not the antidote to all the habitual tendencies of afflictions.

If merely observing the aggregates, which are distinct from a person, does not lead to the view of sentient beings, isn't it the case that all collections of afflictions are simply abandoned? If so, isn't the view of the mere absence of a person itself transcendence of the world? It is not, because if attachment to the aggregates is not abandoned, the view of sentient beings will not be reversed. This is because it arises from attachment to the aggregates. The co-emergent view of sentient beings is not observed to arise from anything other than focusing on the aggregates. Attachment to permanence and so forth also depends on completely grasping the aggregates, because it also assumes that the aggregates are truly existent, so it is impossible to abandon them by believing in impermanence. If it were not so, then believing in and contemplating ugliness and so forth would also become an antidote to afflictions. Therefore, not focusing on the aggregates is the object of suchness that is validly established by valid cognition, and therefore contemplating suchness becomes the antidote to all stains of faults, but it is not focusing on it. As it is said: As long as there is grasping of the aggregates, from that there is also the term 'I.' Second fascicle. Some say that the explanation that some abandon afflictions by realizing the mere absence of self of a person is done for the sake of those to be tamed, but it is not truly existent. It is like the explanation that "Monks, there is a burden and there is also a bearer of the burden," and so forth. Thus, by showing that all phenomena are without self through examples, and in order to show that this is connected to the Bodhisattva, it is said, "Which Bodhisattva," and so forth. "Thus" here means like that. Connect "whoever knows all phenomena like a garland of lotuses, knows like that" with "knows like that." Whoever thus views all phenomena as without self is also beyond Nirvana, and does not touch the Nirvana of the Hearers, nor does he make it an object, but with great compassion looks upon all beings, because he contemplates that all phenomena are unobservable. "That" here refers to the Bo-
