Because the wisdom of benefiting sentient beings is kept in mind, the term Bodhisattva and so on arise. "Not equally abiding" refers to the stages of ending and connecting. "Completely not degenerating" is because one does not fall into samsara and nirvana due to wisdom and compassion. There are twelve types of these methods. The method of completely transcending obstacles is like a person skilled in art, entering with love focused on the realm of sentient beings, in order to completely transcend obstacles such as demons. For example, saying "person" and so on. "Diligent" means being accustomed. "Practicing illusion" is because even alone, one does not show many retinues. "Greatly desiring to benefit sentient beings" is because someone without compassion, even if capable, will not engage in completely saving others. "He" refers to the person mentioned earlier. "All" means everything, to be connected with "the realm of sentient beings." "From the two grounds" refers to the grounds of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, to be connected with "transcending." "Not realizing Bodhi" is because one has not perfected the accumulations, or because one does not cling to them, it is thought. The uncommon method is that, just as the vessel world exists in space due to the karma of sentient beings, one abides in emptiness, which is extremely difficult to practice, with the thought of not abandoning all sentient beings, so the saying "space" and so on arises. "That" refers to that mass of water. "Sentient beings" is to be connected with "support." "The cause of acting" is because without the vessel world, one cannot enjoy the fruits of karma, this is a summary statement. "Action" refers to the nature of things that gather, such as giving. In order for sentient beings to know, whatever wish is relied upon to show action, that itself exists, the words should be connected in this way. "Without abiding" is because emptiness, like space, is not a support, but it is thought that one will not fall into another ground. The method of no characteristics is emptiness.

Because one does not abide in oneself, and does not grasp at characteristics and the absence of characteristics, therefore sayings such as "when" arise. Because one is not attached to characteristics, one engages in peace. Because one is not attached to the absence of characteristics, one engages in supreme peace. The method of abiding without abiding is like acting towards the sky and the earth; without abiding in peace and characteristics, one abides in the activity of benefiting sentient beings, therefore sayings such as "appearance" arise. The saying "not abiding therein" is because one only goes to the sky. The "door of liberation" is the nature of emptiness, absence of characteristics, and absence of wishes, because it is the method of liberation. The method of following after being drawn by aspiration is like a skilled archer who shoots an arrow into the sky as he wishes and catches it; abiding in wisdom, one follows after being drawn by the aspiration of the past, therefore one does not directly realize the true limit. For example, sayings such as "practicing archery" arise. The saying "other arrows" refers to others. "Afterwards, connecting like a thread" means shooting like a thread, not letting the previously shot arrow fall. The method is the nature of loving-kindness and so forth. Power is knowing what is and is not the case, and so forth. Miraculous power is going in the sky, and so forth. The discerning one is the one who sees the absence of inherent existence. The supreme emptiness is the absence of all habitual patterns of conceptualization. One does not attain it because the accumulation of merit is not complete; if one were to directly realize it, it would be spontaneously accomplished, because there would be no protection for all (beings). The accumulation of merit is complete because it is accomplished by the direct realization of correct conceptualization. It is like what is said in the Sutra of the Unwavering Wheel: "If those Buddhas, the Bhagavat, did not lead that Bodhisattva into the door of direct realization, then he would pass into Nirvana here." The method of not being weary is like a monk endowed with miraculous powers who performs various miracles in the sky at once without being weary; likewise, abiding in emptiness, one will not be weary of the activity of saving sentient beings.
