To realize suchness. By the reasoning called "realizing suchness," if one knows the realm of phenomena, then by its power, according to whatever one desires, one should understand that this alone is it. Thus, by focusing on suchness and obtaining the wisdom of all-knowingness, one places things in their natural state through the power of subduing all phenomena, and through the gate of knowing that they are unmixed, it is called the aspect of the Buddha who perfectly and completely awakens to all aspects, the difference being only this much. Some say that self-arising is the cause and the subject, while the perfect and complete awakening to all aspects is the result and the nature of that subject, and their basis is: Son of lineage! The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, after perfectly and completely awakening, enter into the samadhi called "Buddha's extremely perfect and complete awakening." As soon as they enter that samadhi, there are as many sentient beings as there are bodies that abide everywhere. The speech and mind of as many bodies as there are also abide everywhere. Thus it is said. As for the difference between Hearers and Bodhisattvas, etc., as previously stated, Bodhisattvas should cultivate all paths. In order for Bodhisattvas to become familiar with all-knowingness, when they cultivate, it is with outflows. They do not intentionally abandon afflictions, but only suppress them. When those Hearers and Solitary Buddhas cultivate, it is without outflows, because they abandon afflictions like cutting off a poisoned arrow. The "sequence," etc., shows the meaning. Because they have not completely abandoned afflictions, like the dusters of the great city of Light Protection, and those with hair and impure things, they benefit sugarcane fields, rice fields, and grain fields. Like Light Protection, the afflictions of Bodhisattvas also benefit Bodhi, seeing this intention, they do not abandon them. Moreover, it is said: For those who possess great means, afflictions transform into limbs of Bodhi. Thus it is taught, the meaning of limbs is the meaning of cause. Those with outflows

are distinctions in the names of afflictions; these cause leakage and downfall in that realm and this, hence leakage. Leakage is a distinction in the name of downfall. Similarly, there are also expressions such as all-pervasive connection, bondage, latent tendencies, near afflictions, all-encompassing entanglement, rivers, connection, close grasping, knots, obscurations, all, stains, poisoned arrows, heaviness, misconduct, poverty, universal torment, disturbance, strife, epidemics, forest connections, and obstacles. In terms of specific connections, connection refers to the four that are in accordance with the aspect of definitive distinction. "Specific" refers to what is distinct from the Hearers and others, becoming distinct due to causes and complete grasping, and so forth. Alternatively, the connections taught earlier in the context of the three aspects of omniscience are not supreme because they are objects of hearing and thought. Here, because the activity of meditation has been performed, it is designated as supreme. Here too, connection is summarized as twenty, and it should be understood that the teaching of twenty is to be connected in the context of the four aspects that are in accordance with the aspect of definitive distinction. The meaning of the words is easy to understand. As for "qualities," these qualities are possessed from the stage of the first practitioner onwards, but excellent attainment should be applied up to the attainment of warmth. The meaning of the words is easy to understand, so I will not elaborate. "Obstacles are faults," which are possessed from the stage of the first practitioner up to the general path of meditation. However, these faults are mostly established on the stage of the first practitioner and the path of application. Thus, qualities are associated with the higher and higher paths, and faults are associated with the lower and lower paths, which should be understood. Now, this is to be stated: In the Sutra Requested by Noble Akashagarbha, it is said that thoroughly understanding the activities of demons is the Perfection of Wisdom.
