Not being tamed, falling into manifest pride, not submitting to anyone, and pride completely increasing, being angry with sentient beings, not seeking Dharma wisdom, not guarding the treasure of wisdom, the mind always being agitated, being difficult to satisfy and difficult to entreat, these are the deeds of Mara. O sons of the Victorious Ones, these ten are the deeds of Mara for Bodhisattvas, completely abandoning these, Bodhisattvas will seek the Dharma of the Buddha. Also, in that (sutra) it says: O sons of the Victorious Ones, these ten are the blessings of Mara for Bodhisattvas, what are the ten? Like this, becoming disheartened is the blessing of Mara. The mind being confused is the blessing of Mara. Being satisfied with small achievements is the blessing of Mara. Not being able to tolerate anything is the blessing of Mara. Not focusing on a goal higher than aspirations is the blessing of Mara. Wanting to dispel and pacify afflictions is the blessing of Mara. Cutting off the continuation of samsara is the blessing of Mara. Turning away from conduct is the blessing of Mara. Not bringing sentient beings to complete maturity is the blessing of Mara. Doubting the Dharma and abandoning the true Dharma is the blessing of Mara. O sons of the Victorious Ones, these ten are the blessings of Mara, completely abandoning these, Bodhisattvas will obtain the unsurpassed blessing. Also, in the "Arya Manjushri Emanation Sutra" it says: Son of the gods, these twenty are the deeds of Mara for Bodhisattvas, completely and supremely. What are the twenty? Like this, for those Yogis who want liberation and are afraid of samsara, to be close to, rely on, and respect them is the deed of Mara. Separately grasping at emptiness and abandoning sentient beings is also the deed of Mara. Separately grasping at the unconditioned and being completely weary of the roots of virtue of the conditioned is also the deed of Mara. Generating meditation and seeking liberation from meditation is also the deed of Mara.

Teaching the Dharma, but not generating great compassion for those who listen to the Dharma, is also the work of demons. Seeking those who possess virtues and places of giving, but being angry with those who violate the precepts, is also the work of demons. Proclaiming the teachings of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and concealing the teachings of the Great Vehicle, is also the work of demons. Concealing profound teachings, but proclaiming various defiled teachings, is also the work of demons. Although Bodhisattvas know the path to enlightenment, they do not seek the path of the Perfection of Wisdom, which is also the work of demons. Praising diligence, but not exhorting non-diligent beings, is also the work of demons. Roots of virtue, etc., but not manifesting the mind of enlightenment, is also the work of demons. Abiding in the yoga of insight, but not allowing beings to realize true insight, is also the work of demons. Seeking to exhaust all afflictions, but scolding the subtle afflictions of the continuum of samsara, is also the work of demons. Discriminating with wisdom, but not focusing on great compassion, is also the work of demons. Performing all virtuous deeds without skillful means is also the work of demons. Not seeking the Bodhisattva's treasury, but holding onto the deceitful secret words of the world, is also the work of demons. Although having much learning, but fearing that others will know, the teacher is stingy with the Dharma and does not teach, which is also the work of demons. Catering to worldly needs, but not seeking much learning, is also the work of demons. For those who abide in the position of a Bodhisattva Dharma speaker, not attending to and serving those who have the same fortune, but instead delighting in those who abide in the Hearer and Solitary Buddha Vehicle and do not have the same fortune, is also the work of demons. Whenever Indra or Brahma or the guardians of the world or a king or a merchant or a householder possesses the glory of enjoyment, wealth, jewels, and power, at that time, not attending to and serving those who possess the glory of the Dharma, these are the twenty works of demons of the sons of the gods, the Bodhisattvas, thus it is said. Furthermore, the Sutra Requested by the Holy Naga King Anavatapta is from the Great Vehicle Sutra.
