And to fully possess the body that has attained those stages (ས་,bhūmi,地,ground), and the conventional wisdom, and the opposing aspects, and the signs of those stages, and the fruits, it is appropriate to speak of them. Regarding the definitive words for those stages, there are two types: general and specific. For the time being, from the general perspective: Performing various virtuous deeds, with joy constantly in all ways, because of abiding, the stages of the Bodhisattva, are considered to be abiding. Because beings are immeasurable and fearless, for those immeasurable ones, later and later possessing upward progress, those themselves are considered to be stages. Thus it is said. Similarly, from the specific perspective, in order: For Bodhi is near, and seeing the accomplishment of sentient beings' benefit, great joy arises, therefore it is called Joyful. Because of being free from the defilement of immoral conduct and effort, it is called the Immaculate Stage. The great appearance of Dharma, because it acts, it is called Illuminating. Thus, the Dharma that is in accordance with Bodhi, extremely knowing and burning like fire, because it possesses that, that stage is, burning the two, therefore radiating light. Accomplishing the complete maturation of sentient beings, and also protecting one's own mind, it is difficult for the wise to protect, therefore it is called Difficult to Train. Having taught the perfection of wisdom, Samsara and Nirvana, because the two appear manifestly here, it is said to be Manifest. Because it is related to the one path, it is considered to be the Far-Reaching Stage. Because it is unmoved by the two cognitions, it is definitely said to be Immovable. Each correctly knowing virtuous wisdom, that stage is excellent wisdom. Like clouds, the two with the Dharma of space, because of pervading, it is the Cloud of Dharma. Like that and so on, in which scriptures how they are taught. Regarding the classification of the stages, the supramundane stages gathered by the learners are the ten stages taught by the definitive words in this Mahayana. Others, such as the stage of faith and so on, appear many, but because it is not the occasion here, they are not classified. The nature of the stages is the nature of wisdom that is supramundane. If one asks which stage has more of which Dharma, some say that the ten perfections do not apprehend things as real, so they are respectively matched to the stages, thinking and benefit.

"The reality of..." and so on, the contents that are going to be explained, are the dharmas that are mostly practiced and increased on that particular ground. If done in this way, it will be in accordance with the sutras, they say. Others say that it is not reasonable. If, as it is said, these collections of grounds do not cause the unobtained to be obtained, but rather cause the obtained to increase even more, then, when showing the collection of the ninth ground, saying "the qualities of liberation, the Bodhi tree," etc., this would be unreasonable. Because those are the qualities of the bodhisattvas of the tenth ground. Therefore, the teacher also clearly showed that those are the causes for obtaining that ground. They think like this. Among them, on which ground does which dharma increase the most? It is the ten perfections in order. Whichever dharma can cause that ground to be obtained, one mostly trains in that very dharma. Furthermore, in the chapter of the Noble Ten Grounds Sutra, it says, "Among them, the two of the objects of gathering, giving and sweet speech, increase the most, and can cause sentient beings to fully mature," combine with this. Completely subduing has been mentioned in passing. In terms of completely holding the body, one mostly becomes the king of Jambudvipa, as well as the universal monarch, as well as Indra, the lord of the gods, as well as Ashoka, as well as Tushita, as well as Nirmāṇarati, as well as the masters of Paranirmita-vaśavartin, as well as Brahma, the master of a thousand worlds, as well as Mahabrahma, the master of the three-thousand great-thousand worlds, and the son of the gods, Maheśvara, etc. Therefore, one can destroy stinginess, as well as immoral discipline, as well as desire for sensual pleasures, as well as the view of the aggregates, as well as the places of the heretics, as well as pride, and one can accomplish the omniscient wisdom for all sentient beings. In terms of conventional wisdom, on the first ground, one can see the faces of a hundred Buddhas, one can enter into a hundred samadhis, one can shake a hundred Buddha-fields, etc., all in one instant. Combine it like that, the numbers increase, thousand, hundred thousand, koti, koti hundred thousand, koti hundred thousand, billion koti hundred thousand, three thousand

Translated as: Like the extremely fine dust of ten million times a hundred thousand kotis of dust particles, and the extremely fine dust of countless millions of hundred thousand kotis of complete Buddha-fields, and the extremely fine dust of unspeakable billions of hundred thousand kotis. The qualities of these grounds and so on can mostly be found in the "Chapter on the Ten Grounds of the Noble Ones." The inconsistent aspects are that commonalities are taken as objects of grasping, and the discriminating thoughts of grasping are transformed into four hundred and eight types. Specifically, as mentioned before, the first ground is the extreme ignorance of manifest attachment to persons and phenomena, and the extreme ignorance of the afflictions of falling into the lower realms, and its bad situation, the inconsistent aspect. The second ground is the extreme ignorance of the confusion of subtle downfalls, and the extreme ignorance of the various aspects of karma, and its bad situation, the inconsistent aspect. The third ground is the extreme ignorance of attachment to desirable objects, and the extreme ignorance of the perfection of the Dharani of hearing, and its bad situation, the inconsistent aspect. The fourth ground is the extreme ignorance of craving for absorption, and the extreme ignorance of craving for the Dharma, and its bad situation, the inconsistent aspect. The fifth ground is the extreme ignorance of the intention of extreme aversion to and inclination towards samsara, and the extreme ignorance of the intention of aversion to and inclination towards nirvana, and its bad situation, the inconsistent aspect. The sixth ground is the extreme ignorance of the manifestation of arising formations, and the extreme ignorance of the increase of signs, and its bad situation, the inconsistent aspect. The seventh ground is the extreme ignorance of the arising of subtle signs, and the extreme ignorance of the intention of complete signlessness, and its bad situation, the inconsistent aspect. The eighth ground is the extreme ignorance of the obscuration of signlessness, and the extreme ignorance of the mastery of pure signs, and its bad situation, the inconsistent aspect. The ninth ground is the infinite teaching of the Dharma, and the infinite words and letters of the Dharma, and the increasing wisdom, fearlessness, and mastery of total recall.
