However, there are also some who, due to the differences in lineage arising from their inherent nature or habitual tendencies, are merely established as distinct. Please understand this through examples. Thirdly, regarding classification, in general, the *Lankavatara Sutra* speaks of five types: the Great Vehicle, solitary Buddhas, noble Shravakas, the uncertain, and those without lineage. However, this so-called explanation of lineage is only intended from the perspective of the difficulty of liberation. Otherwise, in the first chapter of the *Noble Perfection of Wisdom Sutra*, it is said, "Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, all sentient beings possess the essence of the Tathagata." Also, in the *Noble Moon Lamp Sutra*, it is said, "Here, there are no sentient beings who are not vessels; all beings without exception will become Buddhas." How are these statements to be reconciled? Fourthly, regarding signs, it is said: Before practice, compassion, faith, patience, and virtuous and proper conduct are to be known as signs of lineage. Thus it is said. Fifthly and sixthly, it is said: For a long time, wandering in the lower realms, yet quickly attaining liberation, and experiencing suffering in a lesser degree, maturing all sentient beings with a sense of weariness. And, habitual afflictions, bad friends, poverty, and being under the control of others; in short, the faults of lineage are to be known as four types. Thus it is said. Seventhly, regarding the meaning of the definitive word, protecting direction or land is the meaning of the syllable "Go." Mountains, light, land, and vajra, as well as the heavens, cows, and the supreme, the wise should know the meaning of the syllable "Go." In this way it is stated. Furthermore, due to compassion, sentient beings sink into the lower realms such as hell, therefore it is "Kula." Others are called "Kula" because they become the basis for the accumulation of qualities, following the sound of the expressive word. The meaning of the name is that it is called lineage because it generates qualities, this is the meaning of seed and ability. The so-called nature of the Dharmadhatu, at the time of the initial summary, "It is the basis for practice, the nature of the Dharmadhatu." Keeping this in mind, it is said here as such. As it is said

The Dharma of is the four practices and so on. The basis is the Dharmadhatu, and it is taught that the thirteen lineages of Bodhisattvas, whose nature is related to it through realization, are the lineages. A Bodhisattva is: 'This is not the path to obtain nectar, abandon the evil path and enter the path,' seeing sentient beings with wrong views and making them understand, therefore they are called Bodhisattvas. In this way, a hero who strives for enlightenment is called a Bodhisattva. The thirteen types are the thirteen types enumerated as before. Among them, the first four are included in the path of application. The fifth is the path of seeing. The sixth is the path of meditation. The seventh and ninth are the separation and the attainment of separation from them. The eighth is from the Light-Making Ground to the Sixth Ground. The tenth is the Seventh Ground. The eleventh is from the Immovable Ground to the Cloud of Dharma. The twelfth is the One-Life Connection and the Last Existence. The thirteenth is the Vajra-like Samadhi of the Extraordinary Path. Among them, the ground of the One-Life Connection is close to sentient beings through the actions of the Buddha, and it is shown to please most of the beings to be tamed, so below it, it is said in a subtle way, such as dwelling according to one's thoughts. Among them, in order to lead some sentient beings into this teaching, first, by means of dispelling their fear, it is shown that there exist self, person, aggregates, elements, and so on. All dharmas are empty, all dharmas arise dependently, all dharmas are not inverted, and their nature is luminous, thus distinguishing them. It is spoken based on the characteristics of other-power and perfect accomplishment. It does not speak of one aggregate of Dharma, but depending on the beings to be tamed, it shows eighty-four thousand Dharma doors. It shows that by practicing the extremely difficult conduct of enlightenment and abiding in afflictions, enlightenment is attained, and so on, which is the subtle intention of introducing them. The subtle intention in characteristics, the subtle intention in antidotes, and the subtle intention in transformation.
