Now, all the beginnings of virtuous roots that are made are the deeds of demons. Completely giving away charity without diminishing the mind, being completely enraged at those who break vows, completely abandoning those with evil intentions, completely abandoning the lazy, despising those with disturbed minds, and reviling those with corrupt wisdom are the deeds of demons. Hiding the teacher's teachings on the Dharma, concealing them, despising the vessels of Dharma, and teaching the Dharma in connection with material possessions are the deeds of demons. Teaching the vast Dharma to those who are not vessels is the deed of demons. As for the perfections, not hearing them, leading others astray after hearing them, becoming lazy after entering the wrong path, causing the mind to be discouraged after being lazy, and after the mind becomes discouraged, the mind with the vast path of enlightenment and the Dharma arising from thought do not arise, are the deeds of demons. Relying on evil friends, completely abandoning virtuous spiritual friends, desiring the vehicle of hearers and solitary Buddhas, not rejoicing in the place of birth, Nirvana, being free from desire, and the mind being pacified are the deeds of demons. Having thoughts of hatred towards Bodhisattvas, speaking unpleasant words, creating obstacles to attainment, seeking faults of error, and looking with displeasing eyes are the deeds of demons. Abandoning the sacred Dharma, slandering after hearing sutras that have not been heard, not being happy to listen to the teachings of other speakers of the Dharma and despising them, belittling them, praising oneself and slandering others are the deeds of demons. Seeking worldly tricks, being delighted in self-made things that are self-made in various letters and various grains, recalling the words of hearers and solitary Buddhas, hiding and concealing profound words, speaking various kinds of words, teaching profound Dharma to those who are not vessels, not seeking the path of enlightenment, and abiding in the continuum of evil paths are the deeds of demons. Relying on, being close to, honoring, and serving those who are liberated, who have crossed over, and who have breathed out, but not relying on, not being close to, not honoring, and not serving those who are not liberated, who have not crossed over, and who have not breathed out, and completely abandoning them is also the deed of demons.

Not causing to ripen, falling into arrogance, not respecting anyone, making pride fully increase, being angry with sentient beings, not seeking the wisdom of the Dharma, not protecting the treasure of wisdom, the mind constantly being distracted, being difficult to satisfy and difficult to entreat, these are the deeds of demons. O sons of the conquerors, these ten are the deeds of demons for bodhisattvas. Completely abandoning these, bodhisattvas will seek the Dharma of the Buddhas. Also in that same sutra, it says: O sons of the conquerors, these ten are the blessings of demons for bodhisattvas. What ten? Like this, becoming disheartened is the blessing of demons. The mind being disturbed is the blessing of demons. Being satisfied with small achievements is the blessing of demons. Being unable to tolerate anyone is the blessing of demons. Not seeking anything more excellent than aspirations is the blessing of demons. Wanting to eliminate and pacify afflictions is the blessing of demons. Cutting off the continuum of samsara is the blessing of demons. Turning away from practice is the blessing of demons. Not causing sentient beings to fully ripen is the blessing of demons. Doubting the Dharma and abandoning the true Dharma is the blessing of demons. O sons of the conquerors, these ten are the blessings of demons. Completely abandoning these, bodhisattvas will obtain the unsurpassed blessings. Also in the Arya Manjushri Emanation Sutra, it says: Sons of the gods, these twenty are the deeds of demons for bodhisattvas, completely excellent. What twenty? Like this, approaching, relying on, and honoring those yogis who desire liberation and fear samsara, this is the deed of demons. Separately thinking about emptiness but abandoning sentient beings is also the deed of demons. Separately thinking about the unconditioned but being completely weary of the roots of virtue of the conditioned is also the deed of demons. Cultivating meditation but seeking to turn away from meditation is also the deed of demons.
