Except for the blessings of... Extensive explanation of the meaning of the limbs. Explanation of the first chapter. Having thus shown all the meanings that have been condensed, since the Bodhisattva wishes to attain enlightenment, and because it is the fruit, it is necessary to attain the knowledge of all aspects. Therefore, at first, it is intended to explain through the method of exposition by making verses that collect the knowledge of all aspects, and it is said that. The realization of the knowledge of all aspects is not possible without fully knowing the knowledge of the path, so it is said to be the knowledge of the path. Then again, without fully knowing all the bases well, it is not possible to fully know the path well, so it is said to be the knowledge of all. After that, in order to fully know the three knowledges of all, it is for the purpose of doing that. Again, by collecting the knowledge of all aspects, the path, and the base, the three knowledges of all are meditated upon, so it is said to be the complete realization of all aspects. After that, in order to make it easy to understand, it is said that the realization of the ultimate perfection arises from the complete realization of all aspects. The peak realization, which is preceded by the imputation of signs and so on, is taught. Then again, in order to stabilize the attainment of the peak realization, the meanings of realizing the individual and the collected are gathered in order, so the gradual realization is taught. After that, the gradual realization is meditated upon, and because they have become very familiar, it is meditated upon in one instant, so the enlightenment of one instant is taught. Thus, all the causes have been shown. After that, in order to meditate on the enlightenment of one instant, the Dharmakaya is manifested in the second instant, and the reasons for the gradual determination are mentioned one after another. The reason why I have arranged them all at once is to save effort and make it easy to remember. If so, isn't it the case that the sutras are taught in many chapters? How did the venerable one make so many meanings of the chapters? And the meaning of the chapters is collected into one.

If someone asks, why not make nine sections, etc.? The reason for making so many sections in those sutras is to show that even those beings with extremely inferior faculties can gradually enter by writing and reciting even just one section, as it is stated in the sutras, 'even if one can hold just one verse.' For those who possess bodhicitta, it is said in the sutras that they can hold it completely, and 'completely obtaining the mother of the Buddhas' is also listed as one of the qualities. Therefore, in the verses, the venerable one skillfully taught the eight sections, etc., in order to prevent the disciples from being confused about the meaning of the Abhisamayalankara. It is meaningless to condense it into nine sections, etc., because it is praised to make it short during the time of elaboration, and it is also praised to make it extremely many when analyzing the condensed. If it is divided into nine sections, etc., how can it gain more qualities than teaching it in eight sections? Therefore, since it is meaningless, it is certain that it was not made into nine sections, etc. The term 'generating the mind' (bodhicitta): some consider this to be mainly showing the actual generation of the mind, such as aspiration, etc. Some consider this to be attributed to the companions that increase the generation of the mind, such as generosity, etc. Some consider this to be attributed to the result of generating the mind, such as the single path, etc. The term 'object' (ālambana) refers to what is desired, which is the pursuit of perfect and complete enlightenment itself. It is like how it is taught, 'the object is what is to be accomplished.' The term 'own nature' is indicated by the term 'intention,' which will be explained below. Why is there intention? It is indicated by 'for the sake of others.' Thus, a bodhisattva possesses the intention to benefit sentient beings, possesses bodhicitta, and therefore also obtains the name of a bodhisattva. Thus, it is shown that this is the generation of the mind. The term 'aspiration' (pranidhi) is just aspiration, that is, not even taking the accumulation of merit as the accumulation of the mind of enlightenment. The term 'entering' (prasthāna) means arising from properly taking it after pleasing the spiritual friend.
