DTG086 0024.Commentary on the Fifth Chapter.g2.0f

English

As previously mentioned, the defilements, knowing cessation and non-arising, are of the nature of the Dharmadhatu. Like before, knowing cessation, and because of being separate from one and many, etc., by means of valid cognition, when one knows that beings are born, at that time, all dharmas, etc., are realized without error, and truly knows that there is no birth. Its characteristic is that the essence of the Dharmakaya, etc., is not reasonable as being a body other than wisdom. "As it is" means that it is established by valid cognition. Great Bodhi is pervasive wisdom. Entering into the verses of the unreasonable Bodhi of the inner heretics is, because of what, etc., is said, because the way of the Great Vehicle is such Bodhi. Those inner heretics, with the thought of the destruction of things, for those arising with afflictions, etc., of things, thinking of cessation, the knowledge of the thought of ceasing and ceasing, that is, the conceptual thought, is knowing cessation. With the thought of non-arising of things, for those arising with afflictions, etc., of things, thinking of non-arising, because of non-arising, it is an obstacle that hinders birth, the knowledge of the thought of non-arising and non-arising, because of non-arising, afflictions will not arise, such conceptual thought is called the knowledge of non-arising, if one establishes one's own tenets. Their cessation and non-arising, knowing only by non-existence, that is not permissible, because it is not truly existent, afflictions, etc., are gone. Because cessation and non-arising are only non-existent, the knowledge of the inner heretics is not permissible. For those, the intermediate verses were spoken, that is, one's own teachings established by the characteristics of being separate from one and many, etc., like the teachings of impermanence for the teachings of permanence, or like thinking of the water of a mirage as real water, their teachings are unreasonable. The noble Maitreya, observing with the wisdom of individual self-awareness, in the beginningless existence of those, manifests with things and non-things.

In order to eliminate obstacles, reason is grasped with compassion. As for "the path of seeing," the internal Lokayatas think that my afflictions have been exhausted and will not arise again. Their knowledge of exhaustion and non-arising is actually the very nature of suchness of afflictions and so on. Therefore, exhaustion and non-arising do not exist; that is the nature of non-cessation and is irreversible. Know that this is due to clinging to things and not fully understanding one's own nature. So, what fault will this produce? It is "discrimination" and so on. The kind of discrimination is the nature of discrimination. What is exhausted? It is cessation. Or, how does the nature of discrimination obtain a state of non-arising? That is, what unborn dharma will produce? Nothing at all. If afflictions cease, then the discrimination arising from them will also cease. If so, then it should also be used as the measure just mentioned, with the nature of suchness leading to the nature of afflictions and so on, and the nature of knowing exhaustion and non-arising. Because of clinging to things and not understanding one's own nature, the internal Lokayatas do not understand. Therefore, since they do not understand the nature of afflictions, how can they stop afflictions and so on through the path of seeing? Even if it ceases, how can the successive discriminations arising from it cease one after another? If the cause exists, then the cessation of the result does not exist anywhere. With this thought, therefore, by explaining the intention of the noble Maitreya, the meaning of the verse is "born and" and so on. Born and unborn, in order, that is, the complete destruction of born afflictions and so on is exhaustion. Unborn afflictions and so on prevent their arising, that is, because there is no proximate cause, they are unborn. The cessation of the characteristics of these things is the fruit of the path of seeing, so they think. Separated from this, that is the ultimate truth, and so on, it is said. The ultimate truth is reality, which is analyzable and testable.

Therefore, the nature of suchness is nature, and it is also the nature of the nature of the Dharmadhatu. You are attached to the inverted appearance of things, that is, you are attached to the inverted appearance of things. By the power of the path of seeing, as mentioned before. What is exhausted by those born of the nature of discrimination, etc.? That is, what discriminations such as afflictions arise from habit and cease. What is born of the unborn Dharma nature? Because there is no birth, there is nothing at all. Therefore, you are attached to non-existence, and the path of seeing is not the path. For this reason, only our doctrines should be acknowledged, because the nature of pervasive selflessness is the path to enlightenment, and it should be relied upon. This is what the Bodhisattva Maitreya thought. If one truly acknowledges all dharmas and eliminates the faults of non-Bodhi as mentioned before, then it is not so, etc. Not so, that is, abandoning our doctrines, if one acknowledges that Dharma truly exists, that is, if one clings to form, etc. as being truly existent, then the Blessed One, the afflictions and knowable discriminations of the perfectly enlightened Buddha, are as mentioned before. They are obstacles as before, and the cessation obtained by abandoning them is a wonderful place in all respects, that is, it is amazing, this is impossible, the verses in between say, all dharmas also, etc. If one truly acknowledges that all dharmas, that is, form, etc., also exist, then there is also an obstacle to what is to be known, that is, to what is to be taken. The teachings of the exhaustion and cessation of discriminations, etc., are contrary to what others say, so I regard it as wonderful, this is impossible, the Bodhisattva Maitreya thought. In the occasion where the inner and outer heretics proclaim the means of non-Bodhi, the pervasive selflessness
