The reason for mentioning "outward" etc., is that if it were not so, each of the preceding and succeeding moments would not be possible. Therefore, since it arises from this cause and this condition, the condition of this is only this itself, the nature of dependent origination, that is, the nature that arises from relying on cause and condition, causes the flame and firewood to be placed in the state of burning and being burned. This is just the remaining part. Why is that? Because, when the two meet and gather, it is possible to generate the second moment of meeting, etc. If one does not rely on and examine that moment when both flame and firewood can meet, and take it as the cause, then, the so-called "completely pleasing" is by the power of the connection of cause and effect in the conventional. Because, that cause, the special power led and attached by the first moment, is the nature of being able to burn itself, and not other different kinds. In particular, the second moment etc. that can generate the burning of firewood. If there are second and third moments etc., then, even if the so-called moment of cause itself is destroyed, the cause and effect, that is, the nature of flame and firewood, will arise and perish simultaneously in order, like the two ends of a balance. The reason why arising and ceasing are closely taken is that the fruit of flame is smoke. Because the law of the fruit follows. If it does not exist, but it does exist, then it will transcend having a cause. Because through this reasoning, through the five kinds of perception and non-perception, flame and firewood are considered to be causes and effects with the nature of entering and leaving. Also, for any aspect, if it cannot become a real cause and effect thing, then it is unreliable, and for that aspect, following and stopping should also be considered as being combined with it. This is his intention. Otherwise, for that aspect, it will become various causeless or uncertain causes, because it is uncertain. The author of the commentary said: All abilities...

If it is said that, seeds, etc., for sprouts, etc., if the ability is seen, then all of that is conventional truth. If you want it that way, then it ends up like that. As it is said, and in the Ornament of the Middle Way, the nature of all things is to follow the path of wisdom, eliminating the views of other schools, therefore, evil debaters have no place to stand. Such and so on are mentioned. By "by" and so on, the example shown by the example of enlightenment and the example of the lamp, etc., is mentioned. The two moments that occur one after the other, which refer to the same object, refer to the burning that the lamp has. To connect to this is to know it as the cause, which refers to the one who reveals. To focus on this is to take it as the main thing, to understand it in the manner of the example of the lamp. The things that accomplish enlightenment, the things that have limits, refer to the nature of the eight realizations, or the nature of mindfulness and so on. The consciousness that appears there is because the mind that arises with discrimination is caused by the eight realizations and so on. The so-called reliance on the former means that this is merely the nature of dependent arising, with conventional truth as the cause. The meaning of appearance refers to the objects taken by eye consciousness and so on, which are objects that are determined to be the nature of incompatible things. Therefore, tranquility refers to being particularly superior, the appearance itself that is particularly distinguished from the three realms is a superior difference of mind, it is the nature of its antidote, the later consciousness that appears as its antidote refers to when the mind of realization arises for the later enlightenment, then enlightenment is attained, it can be understood as having abandoned the afflictions and their habits. As it is said in the Ornament of the Middle Way: The wise who understand the selflessness of phenomena, by familiarizing themselves with no self-nature, thereby completely abandon the afflictive obscurations that arise from inversion. As it is said, and as it is said in that same treatise: The things of cause and effect, in conventional truth, are undeniable, therefore, from defilement to purification, etc., the establishment is not confused. As it is said, and in the Distinguishing Middle and Extremes, it is also said: The obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge itself.
