Firstly, its object, the nine aspects of what is to be grasped, refers to the discriminating thoughts that distinguish between what to accept and what to reject, in any way, such as collecting the Dharma. All discriminating thoughts are to be abandoned, hence the mention of "first" and so on. The meaning of the verse refers to mentioning "spiritual friend" and so on, because without a spiritual friend and so on, there is no instruction on the correct oral teachings and faith, etc., therefore the mind of enlightenment does not arise. The merit of focusing on the Buddha, which is superior due to the purity of the three spheres, is the essence because the object is enlightenment itself, or the state of making it manifest, not focusing on it is not focusing. Saying "Shravaka" and so on, is because they are of the lineage of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, so there is hope of realizing the fruit of the path. The Prajnaparamita is what was said before. Not cultivating it is because one is separated from practice, not focusing on the correct enlightenment, which is not focusing on the perfect Buddha. Because of having an object, focusing on what is to be grasped, etc., is focusing on the form, etc., that is to be cultivated. Because of having no object, not focusing on what is to be grasped, etc., not cultivating is not focusing on form, etc. Because of neither having an object nor not having an object, neither focusing nor not focusing are cultivated, nor is it not cultivated, which is not focusing and focusing on form, etc. Because of clinging to what is inverted, it is clinging to what is to be grasped, etc. Saying "the meaning that is not as it is" is the meaning of inversion. Saying "that state is to be abandoned" is that at the time of being able to control, it is extremely to be abandoned. The mind and mental factors mentioned before in the path of cultivation refer to the feeling, etc., of differentiated consciousness. Their state of entering refers to the difference that constantly arises, its object refers to what is to be grasped, etc. On grasping, etc.

English

The meaning of the verses is that it speaks of things like "existing as substance." The statement "not born as substance" means that it is not reasonable to be born as truly existent. The designation as "sentient being" refers to the names of persons, etc. The statement "merely appearing" means that external objects should not exist, because it is the sentient being itself, so the designation as "dharma" refers to the names of form, etc. The statement "pervading all" means that because it does not abide anywhere, it should not exist, so the emptiness of the three qualities of omniscience, etc., and whatever arises like the mind, etc., is not truly existent. The statement "not abandoning manifest clinging in all ways" means that it does not prevent manifest attachment to things like grasping in all ways. Attachment to dharma is manifest clinging to things like form. The statement "realizing no self-nature" means that because one knows that form, etc., do not exist, one should know the excellent differentiation of dharma, which is the division of the categories of form, etc. The statement "not doing what is to be done" means that because one does not focus on the three kinds of things to be done that were previously mentioned, one does what is to be done for the sake of things, which is to focus on showing the meaning of those with internal and external self-nature. The statement "not focusing on form, etc." means that because there is no grasping, etc., one does not know form, etc., so the three vehicles definitely arise, which is to directly realize the fruit of omniscience. The statement "not truly entering" means that because there is no grasping, etc., one does not directly realize, which is the fault of being impure, which is not purifying the wealth, etc., given by disciples, etc. The statement "meditating by focusing on generosity, etc." means that with the knowledge that focuses on real things like meditation, what is to be thought about, and both, behavior is confused, which is manifest clinging to actions like generosity, etc. The statement "as before" means that because of inverted manifest clinging, because it is not the way things truly are, it should be abandoned in this situation, so it speaks of "clinging," etc. The statement "sentient being," etc., is the verse of clinging, which is with the designation of sentient being, etc.
