It should be known that this is the samadhi called "Increase." The order of ignorance and so on should be understood from the perspective of meaning. As stated in the Dharmapada: Ignorance and afflictions exist first, actions are previous deeds, consciousness connects the aggregates, name and form are after that, until the six sense bases arise, that is until the three combine, contact is of pleasure and pain, etc., until the cause of knowing ability, feeling until sexual desire is attachment, those with desire for enjoyment and sex, closely take enjoyment of things, running around to obtain them, that is its fruit, is future karma, the action is existence, connection is birth, what is between feeling is old age and death. As it is said. The path of meditation is mentioned as such and so on, abandoning the unfavorable aspects is the extreme cessation of afflictions and so on. The word "etc." means the extreme non-arising of unborn afflictions and so on. Establishing the support to manifest means that abandoning without a basis is unreasonable, therefore the wisdom that relies on it precedes. Easy to understand means easy to realize. Because of the cause of "suchness," the support is the basis of abandoning and so on. The path of meditation is said to be cessation and so on, hells, hungry ghosts, animals, humans, and the six desire realms are the desire realm. Belonging to the desire realm is obtained by birth. Unequally abiding consciousness is the discriminating consciousness. Limitingly speaking, because beings of the desire realm can attain Buddhahood, they are approached and separately established, the nine meditative absorptions corresponding to cessation, connected to the above. Therefore, the meaning is this, the four dhyanas corresponding to cessation, and the four formless absorptions, among the nine, starting from the first dhyana, practicing in sequence, reaching until cessation, and then coming, so-called reaching the nine meditative absorptions corresponding to cessation, connect after this. Therefore, the meaning is this, starting from the final cessation, returning from the sequence to the first dhyana, and then again

From those nine successive absorptions, they are divided into two types. That is, having transcended and passed through whatever the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth absorptions are, and having broken through from that, it is called absorption. This is the special feature of meditative concentration that disparages afflictions together with their habitual tendencies. It proceeds differently up to cessation. The statement, "Through the order of accordance and non-accordance, cessation is manifestly pervaded, proceeding in a non-sequential manner," should be understood as being explained here as the very path of cultivation. The meaning of the verse is that it mentions Bodhisattva and so forth. Starting from the first dhyana and going up to cessation, from the statement "desire is unwholesome," it mentions taking hold from the mind distracted by the conceptualization of the desire realm, and then, with the mind belonging to the form realm, manifesting the first dhyana, going up to cessation. Similarly, the second, third, and fourth dhyanas are also like that. And, The formless realm has no place to dwell, From arising there are four kinds. As it is said, the mind belonging to the formless realm is the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, and the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. After that is cessation. Similarly, the explanation of proceeding in sequence and so forth is that after that, starting from cessation and coming up to the first dhyana, through constantly cultivating non-accordance, coming up to the first dhyana, that is, the explanation of coming to the nine successive absorptions with cessation and so forth. The order of explanation as such, with the two orders of accordance and non-accordance, having gone to the four dhyanas, the four formless states, and the nine successive absorptions characterized by cessation, that is, starting from the first dhyana, up to cessation is accordance, and starting from cessation, up to the first dhyana is non-accordance, that is the concluding statement. Again, abandoning such two types and so forth, that is, it mentions having arrived and so forth.
