It is said that it is not so because it has such an appearance. In the teaching treatise on the Perfection of Wisdom, "Ornament for Clear Realization," in the commentary by the Venerable Lion Good, a concise explanation of the appearance that is difficult to understand, made by Dharmakirti, the explanation of the fourth chapter is completed. Explanation of the Fifth Chapter Where there is no effort and no mindfulness, there one should think with effort, not elsewhere. Because it abides spontaneously. In the manner of the perfections, in the order of meditating on the generation of the mind, etc., which is transmitted from one to another, where there is no effort, there one should abandon effort, and where there is none of that, there one should make effort. Thus, by meditating on the meaning of the four chapters, possessing the knowledge of the unborn nature of all aspects, paths, and bases, in the order of what is said, for the sake of the meaning to be meditated upon, one should also realize the path of the ultimate perfection from that, for the sake of showing it. It is said, "From the complete realization of all aspects," what will happen from possessing the knowledge of the unborn nature of all aspects, paths, and bases? It is said that the realization of the ultimate perfection will arise. Here there is the realization of the ultimate perfection; by meditating on the peak realization of effort and non-effort, spontaneous wisdom will arise. That is the remainder. From the peak realization, the cause of explaining the signs, etc., at the beginning, is mentioned for the sake of easy understanding. Even in dreams, etc., the explanation of the verses of signs, etc., is said because it is extremely familiar. The words "etc." mean that when one meditates on the path of selflessness with reverence, etc., by the power of a slight extreme, in the state of not being asleep, just by seeing, not only does one see forms, etc., as dreams and illusions, etc., but also in other places, in the state of being overcome by sleep. After that, the words "hearers," etc., are the same, because one has the most excellent wisdom, one sees other paths as devoid of essence. The words "Thus Gone One" and so on are the same, one's own.

Because one sees that Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, etc., arising from the mind are no different. Similarly, the term "Buddha," etc., is because the body, etc., is light, and one sees things like walking in the sky that are in accordance with one's own and others' practice. Similarly, the term "teaching the Dharma," etc., is because it is inferior and therefore reproached, because there is no abandonment. Similarly, the term "hell-beings," etc., is because one's own mind is pure, so one's own Buddha-field is pure, and remembering this, hell, etc., is purified, because it is no different from one's own mind. Similarly, the term "city," etc., is because one has learned inconceivable skillful means, so one has perfected inconceivable abilities. Similarly, the term "yaksha," etc., is because one has completely abandoned grasping, etc. Similarly, the term "one's own," etc., is because one strives for excellence through the wisdom of direct perception, and because that which is not to be traversed by demons is the very reliance on a true spiritual friend. Similarly, the phrase "in all ways," etc., is because permanence and self, etc., are without essence, so by cutting off the crowds of external and internal heretics, one learns the meaning of the excellent meaning and the distinctions of the scriptures, such as the Sutras of a Hundred Thousand Verses, etc. Similarly, the phrase "to all," etc., is because there is no thought of grasping, etc. Similarly, the phrase "of the Buddha," etc., is because it is a stainless thought. The phrase "the distinction of the time of attaining the peak realization" refers to the wisdom of the spontaneously accomplished peak realization. The term "sign" means the signs, etc., of the yogi of the peak realization. Here, a shrinking mind should be held, and agitation should also be calmed. As it is said, for all meditations, a shrinking mind is due to attending to appearances. For agitation due to desire and conceptualization, one should know that one should reverse them in order with meditations on ugliness and mindfulness of counting the breath.
