In the Ornament, the treatise by the Venerable Lion Good, which was made into a difficult commentary due to the fame of its Dharma, this is the explanation of the commentary on the second chapter. Commentary on the Third Chapter Starting with "all bases," after explaining the victorious explanation, it explains omniscience itself. The explanation of the verses beginning with "this shore" is that it begins with "the three times." The dharmas of the three times are forms, etc., that exist in the three times. "The aspect of no birth" means that by realizing that the very nature of dependent origination is the equality of no birth, it is known as oneness. "The Prajñāpāramitā that is close to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas is considered to be the essence of the non-dual wisdom that abides in one's own mind, which is not that of other Śrāvakas, etc., because they have the habitual tendencies of grasping, etc., and therefore do not have the omnipresent wisdom of no birth." "The times" etc. have already been explained. Not abiding in anything is what is meant by "this shore" etc. The Prajñāpāramitā of the sons of the Victorious Ones, the edge of this shore is saṃsāra, because it is traversed and seen by ordinary beings, etc., therefore it does not abide at the edge of existence and is manifestly entered. Why is that? Because of wisdom. Because the principles of Prajñāpāramitā, etc., are known without error through hearing, etc. The edge of the far shore is nirvāṇa, because it is not to be traversed or seen by ordinary beings, etc., therefore it does not abide in the distant nirvāṇa. Why is that? Because of compassion. With compassion focused on all sentient beings without exception. These existence and peace need to be eliminated by other means, that is, in order, by clinging to self, etc., and not clinging, existence and nirvāṇa are the nature of permanence and annihilation. Not abiding between these is because in reality there is no existence or peace, therefore there is no gap between them. In this way, the Prajñāpāramitā

What is it to have gone beyond? If that is the case, since samsara and nirvana have no beginning or end and do not abide in the extremes, they do not abide in samsara and peace. It is said that not being attached to samsara and nirvana is the perfection of wisdom. This is an explanation of "wisdom" and so forth. The mother of the Bodhisattvas is explained by way of following, and then by way of reversing, the Hearers and so forth do not have that, which is called "all-knowingness" and so forth. The so-called "state of all-knowingness" is shown by reversing and showing that all-knowingness is taken as dominant, therefore it is explained from the perspective of the Bodhisattva by way of reversing. Because the Hearers and so forth do not have the ability to know the three times as equal, they do not know that the things that exist in the three times are unborn. The so-called being far from the true perfection of wisdom is the abandonment of the knowledge that is not attached to anything, because it is the nature of knowing that the things of the three times are unborn. In that way, it is only realized by oneself, because the perfection of wisdom, which is the essence of one's own awareness, lacks compassion and wisdom. Because they are afraid of seeing things in nirvana. Nirvana is of the nature of cessation, and samsara is also a similar transmission from one mistake to another, therefore they abide and manifest the view of generating permanence. Why is that? Because of focusing on things and non-things. Because its tenet is permanent, the ultimately existent real thing is nirvana. In terms of impermanence and so forth, because those are to be abandoned, samsara is a non-thing. These are known by focusing on them. Or, because reality itself is inverted, the things such as form are truly existent in the ultimate sense. If reality does not exist, then one is attached to its impermanence and so forth as non-things, it should be understood in this way. In either case, the Hearers and so forth who have characteristics will definitely be attached to some things.
