Meditating on selflessness in order is meditating according to the proper order. Similarly, starting from the end and meditating in reverse order, one should know that this is meditating against the proper order. Furthermore, regarding "seeing" and so on, eliminating the various explanations of "lion's leap" and so on, because the afflictions cannot be overcome, one should know that this is the samadhi of "lion's leap." The order of ignorance and so on should be understood from the meaning, as it is said in the Abhidharma: "Ignorance is the time of the former limit of afflictions, actions are done by past karma, consciousness is the connecting aggregate itself, name and form gradually increase from this, the six sense sources arise in the same way, the union of the three things is also the same, contact is the condition for experiencing pleasure and pain, knowing the cause and ability is also the same, from feeling to desire arises, those who indulge in enjoyment and craving, grasping is enjoying all the realms, striving diligently to obtain them, the result of that will be in the future, the creator is also existence, continuous connection is birth, between feeling and old age and death is also the same." As it is said. The path of meditation is as it is said, abandoning the unfavorable aspects is completely eliminating afflictions and so on. The word "etc." indicates completely not generating unborn afflictions and so on. Establishing the basis for manifestation means that abandoning without a basis is unreasonable, therefore the consciousness that relies on this goes first. Easy to understand means easy to realize. Because of "as it is," the basis is the foundation for abandoning and so on. The path of meditation is what is said about cutting off and so on, hell, hungry ghosts, animals, humans, and the six desire realms are the desire realm. Belonging to the desire realm is obtained by birth. Unequally abiding consciousness is the consciousness of discrimination. "Cutting off" means that beings in the desire realm are able to attain Buddhahood, therefore, approaching and taking and establishing, the nine successive absorptions associated with cessation are connected with the previous text. Therefore, the meaning is:

And the four meditations with cessation, and the four formless attainments. Starting from the first meditation among the nine, practicing in sequence, reaching cessation and returning, the so-called "reaching the nine attainments with cessation" should be added here. Therefore, the meaning is this: starting from the final cessation, contrary to the order, reaching the first meditation, and again entering the nine attainments, among those nine attainments there are two ways, surpassing and exceeding any of the attainments one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight, the attainment that surpasses from them is called the distinction of meditation that subdues afflictions and their habitual tendencies by diminishing them. Proceeding differently to reaching cessation. The so-called "like that, with the order conforming to the sequence and the order not conforming to the sequence, cessation appears to be pervasive, proceeding out of order, that is said to be the path of practice here" should be understood as such. The meaning of the verse is that Bodhisattva and so on are mentioned, starting from the first meditation reaching cessation, starting from "desire is unwholesome", approaching from the mind distracted by the conceptual thoughts of the desire realm, then with the mind belonging to the form realm, actualizing the first meditation, reaching cessation, like that, the second meditation, the third meditation, and the fourth meditation are also like that. The formless realm has nowhere to dwell, from birth there are four kinds, the mind belonging to the formless realm, the space of infinite, the consciousness of infinite, the nothingness, the neither perception nor non-perception. After that is cessation. Like that, proceeding in sequence and so on, what is said is that after that, starting from cessation, reaching the first meditation, meaning constantly practicing in a way that does not conform to the sequence, reaching the first meditation, that is, reaching the nine attainments with cessation and so on is said. Like that, what is said is the two ways of conforming to the sequence and not conforming to the sequence in order.
