Having eliminated and perfected the obscurations of knowledge of the Buddhas, including their habitual tendencies, completely eliminating the apprehended and so forth, and preventing them; those who assert that phenomena, such as form, exist, and believe that they exist in ultimate reality, this is acknowledging mutually contradictory meanings. I am amazed because I have directly realized samadhi, if attachment to perverse objects could also lead to the cessation of afflictions, then why couldn't it be like ordinary people? The noble Maitreya thought so. From a supreme cause comes a supreme result, just as from the seed of the Kovidāra comes a sprout of rice, it does not come from other things, this is what everyone should acknowledge. Therefore, the supreme result of abandoning afflictions cannot be achieved through the path of seeing, which is contaminated by viewing impure objects as its object. This should be understood. In the Ornament of the Middle Way, it says: From a pure cause comes a pure result, just like the pure limbs of discipline and so forth that arise from correct views. And in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it says: Sometimes one method, practiced many times, can eliminate the qualities and faults in it. This is what is said. Therefore, "by eliminating the side of existence" means that after showing that the tenets of the apprehended and so forth are untrue tenets, having firmly established and ascertained the tenet of selflessness that pervades all absence of inherent existence, those who desire liberation should only acknowledge this. Those who desire perfect enlightenment should acknowledge that this side of the selflessness of all things is the only reasonable one, this is the side of abiding. What is said in the intermediate verses of the established tenet is: In this, and so on. In this, there is nothing to be eliminated. Because of the cause that leads to non-liberation, one should eliminate the views of inherent existence and so forth that are fabricated by the inner Tirthikas such as Devadatta. There is nothing to be added, which means the self of the outer Tirthikas.
