With skillful means and non-objectification, rejoicing in the roots of virtue, practicing rejoicing with mindfulness, this is said to be meditation. It is said that with a mind of great joy, conventionally, one focuses on the roots of virtue through skillful means, and ultimately, one rejoices through non-objectification. The condensed meaning of this is that through faith and mindfulness, one manifestly accumulates merit like extracting gold dust from its source. Through dedication with mindfulness, it becomes a limb of perfect enlightenment, like a goldsmith crafting ornaments. Through rejoicing with mindfulness, one obtains the equality of merit done by oneself and others. Below the contaminated, there is the path of uncontaminated meditation, and that too is twofold. Therefore, the first is the path of meditation characterized by manifest accomplishment. Its very nature is supreme, it does not manifestly cling to everything, establishing all phenomena in non-objectification, it is of great significance. It is said that seeing form and so on without distortion is its nature. That others cannot attain Buddhahood is supreme. Combining the distinctions of all phenomena with non-arising is not manifestly clinging to everything. Like this, the dharmas of the path possessing nature and so on, giving rise to non-objectification in the continuum of the yogi, is establishing. Because it accomplishes the great meaning of Buddhahood, it is of great significance. After that, through grasping and abandoning, one can attain, and regarding the cause of birth and non-birth in this life, through eliminating the doubt of what it is, the second is the characteristic of extreme purity. Relying on the Buddha and generosity, etc., and being skilled in means, these are the causes of faith in this. The causes of lacking Dharma are being oppressed by the hordes of demons, not having faith in the profound Dharma, clinging to the aggregates, etc., and being completely controlled by evil friends. It is said that pleasing the Buddha, and perfecting the perfections such as generosity, and being skilled in tranquility, these are the causes of birth.
