If combined with refutation, it is intolerable to distinguish based on the nature of the self-entity of difference arising from proximity. However, in the conventional truth, the nature of the Dharma that has been spoken and shown, by greatly showing the arising of great fruits to childish beings, becomes agreeable to the cause of the Dharmadhatu, which is the nature of great compassion without objectification. The Tathagata thinks this way, so it will not excessively become many entities. Isn't the habituation with the characteristic of emptiness brought to the extreme uncreated? Therefore, to welcome doubts in the presence of those of inferior intelligence who think that they do nothing at all, (it is said:) "In the unspeakable thing, neither decline nor increase is permissible. By the path called meditation, what declines and what is attained?" This is said. The object of the path, which is accepted as the nature of Dharma, is truly neither that, nor other, nor both, nor neither, because the perfection of meditation is uncreated in the unspeakable. Therefore, the opposing side and the antidote cannot be separated or generated in order. Therefore, by the path called meditation, what is completely purified and what is attained from the nature of the opposing side? If it is said that one does nothing at all, therefore it should not be established, it is not so, (because,) "As is enlightenment, so is suchness, this accomplishes the desired meaning, enlightenment is the characteristic of suchness, that is also accepted as its characteristic." This is said. As such, with the enlightenment of suchness without distinction, merely with the nature of non-conceptual wisdom, the nature of the Buddhas of the nature of Dharmakaya, etc., in accordance with the merit and wisdom of the beings to be tamed, through the door of generating a mind that manifests special meaning, it accomplishes the meaning of manifesting the desired. Likewise, the path made manifest through meditation by separating from temporary defilements, this characteristic of suchness also performs the action of manifesting the desired meaning in the conventional truth. In the ultimate truth, it is recognized in the way of negating decline and increase, so at that time combining.

Since the absence of inherent existence is the union, there is no fault. Even so, there might be a doubt that it is not even possible to function conventionally. To dispel this doubt, it is said: "Mind is not enlightened by the former, nor is it by the latter." Because for each mind that arises before and after, all aspects of accomplishing the enlightenment of the Buddha, such as omniscience, do not appear, it is not reasonable for each to become enlightened. It is also not the case that many minds appearing simultaneously, which accomplish the desired meaning, can do so, because it is said in the scriptures that sentient beings are each a stream of consciousness, so it is impossible. It is also not the case that many mental events arising successively, which accomplish the unsurpassed enlightenment of the Buddha, up to the realization of the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, etc., each arising in its own nature, can do so, because they perish as soon as they arise, without any continuation, so there is no connection between them. Therefore, how does it function through the arising of a mind that manifests a special meaning? That is not truly existent. It is said: "By way of the example of a lamp, the profound nature of reality has eight aspects." Just as in the first moment when the flame and the wick meet, it is not made special by the fact that its own cause arises simultaneously through mutual means. Without a second moment, (it has) the nature of cause and effect, able to burn and unable to burn. Similarly, the second moment when the flame and the wick arise in a special way would also lead to the fault of being permanent, etc., because without the first moment, it would not arise even conventionally. Therefore, (it also) does not have the nature of cause and effect, able to burn and unable to burn. For what reason is it so? Therefore, when the nature of the condition itself is not examined by the nature of dependent arising, dwelling happily alone, relying on the power of the connection between cause and effect, in relation to the special first moment when the two meet, the special second moment is endowed with the power of what was done by it.
