Listeners and speakers, whether former or latter, as long as they are related, will have: deficiencies caused by intention and laziness, deficiencies caused by different objects of intention, deficiencies caused by the size of greed, possessing and not possessing the merits of learning, the nature of good and non-good dharmas, generosity and stinginess, giving and not receiving, understanding through mentioning the beginning, understanding through detailed explanation, understanding and not understanding the sutras and other dharmas, possessing and not possessing the six perfections, this is called the third set of ten. Similarly, being skilled in means and non-means, obtaining and not obtaining dharani, wanting to copy letters and not wanting to copy letters, being separated and not separated from the intention of desire, this is called four categories. Turning away from the path of evil destinies, being satisfied with going to happy destinies, these are two categories. Speakers and listeners, whether former or latter, as long as they are related, are single like numbers, being very happy with the retinue, not distinguishing opportunities, wanting to be closely connected, wanting a little bit of wealth, not wanting to give these away, going in the direction that will or will not lead to life-threatening dangers, this is called the fourth set of ten. Similarly, going and not going in the direction where famine occurs, going and not going in the direction disturbed by thieves and so on, being unhappy because of looking after the house, this is called three categories. The combination of demons causing division and false intimacy, and generating joy that does not correspond to reality, these are another three categories. In this way, there are forty-six faults. In order, one should cultivate the combination of strengths and weaknesses by taking the good and avoiding the bad, which is based on knowing the characteristics in advance, so after the faults are their characteristics. What is used to represent, that is the characteristic. The knowable is also three types. Knowledge is distinguishing, and the essence is also what is represented. It is said that by establishing the function, because this represents the various combinations, it is knowledge, distinction, and function.

Therefore, by accomplishing them, these are symbolized, which is the characteristic of self-nature. Characteristics should be understood as four types. Among them, the characteristic of knowledge, which is different due to the distinction of the three omniscient ones. First, in terms of the omniscient one: "The Tathagata appears, the self-nature of the world's non-destruction, the behavior of sentient beings' minds, and their collection and retrospection, the inexhaustible aspect, attachment and so on, and vastness, becoming great and immeasurable, consciousness cannot be indicated, the mind cannot be seen, and knowledge, agitation and so on are called, and those other than these are known as the aspect of suchness. The Able One realizes suchness, and indicates it to others, this is called the summary of the characteristic of knowledge at the time of the omniscient one." Thus it is said. The Tathagata appears, the world is not destroyed, the behavior of sentient beings' minds, the collection of minds, the distraction of minds, the inexhaustible aspect of minds, minds with attachment and so on, and what is included by the word "so on", minds without attachment, vast minds, minds becoming great, immeasurable minds, minds that cannot be indicated, minds that cannot be seen, minds that are agitated and so on, agitation and so on are aspects of suchness. The Tathagata realizes suchness, and indicates and establishes it to others, these sixteen differences of the aspects of knowledge, truly symbolize the practices of the omniscient one as they are, therefore, the characteristic of knowledge is covered by the omniscient one. After that, in terms of the path-knowing one: "Emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, unbirth, unceasing and so on, the nature of phenomena is undisturbed, non-accumulation and non-discrimination, the excellent liberation is without characteristics, at the time of the path-knowing one, it is considered to be the characteristic of knowledge." Thus it is said. Emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, unbirth, unceasing, and what is included by the word "so on", without afflictions
