Like this, not doing virtuous deeds, these five kinds of complete purification, like before, not clinging to self-nature and making purification, one can realize the third ground, the Illuminating Ground. Living in the forest, having few desires and being content, relying on the correct training, not abandoning the precepts one has taken, reproaching all desires, tending towards nirvana, abandoning all possessions, not being timid, and having no views. It means: living in a solitary place, not having strong desires for gains that have not been obtained, not excessively pursuing gains that have been obtained, and the virtues of purification such as begging for alms, correctly relying on the training, not abandoning the precepts one has taken even for the sake of one's life, viewing the merits of desire as faults and reproaching them, tending towards nirvana in order to tame those to be tamed, completely abandoning all possessions, not being timid when practicing virtue, and not clinging to all things. Like this, like before, with ten kinds of complete purification, one suppresses the fourth ground, the Radiant Ground. Familiarity and attachment to home, and places that have become noisy, praising oneself and disparaging others, the ten non-virtuous paths of action, being filled with pride and perversion, evil wisdom and enduring afflictions. It means: associating with renunciants etc. for the sake of gains etc., not being close to the homes of those with faith, and villages etc. where many people live, praising oneself, slandering others, the ten non-virtuous paths of action, being arrogant with learning etc. and not respecting others, clinging to virtue and non-virtue in a perverse way, evil wisdom such as wrong views, and following all afflictions such as desire. Like this, with ten kinds of completely abandoning the characteristics of the Dharma, and the purification brought about by the opposite Dharma, like before, one can obtain the fifth ground, the Very Difficult to Conquer Ground. Giving, moral discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom are completely perfected, and one abandons the mind of joy and fear towards disciples and rhinoceroses.

English

If one is not discouraged when begged, and does not dislike giving away all possessions, and does not abandon beggars even when poor, then one will truly attain the sixth ground. This means that by perfecting the six perfections, one develops desire for hearers and solitary realizers, fears non-inherent existence, becomes discouraged when begged by beggars, dislikes giving away all possessions spontaneously, and abandons the mind of abandoning beggars even when poor. Through twelve such complete purifications, the sixth ground manifests as before, and one becomes fully aware. Holding onto self and sentient beings, life and person, annihilation and permanence, sign and cause, aggregates and elements, sources and speech, dwelling and attachment to the three realms, the mind is always discouraged, and with the three jewels and discipline, there is manifest attachment to viewing them, arguing about emptiness, and the faults that contradict it. Whoever is completely free from these twenty, attains the seventh ground. This means that self, sentient beings, life, person, annihilation, permanence, sign, cause, aggregates, elements, sources, dwelling and attachment to the three realms, the mind is always discouraged, and with the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, and discipline, there is manifest attachment to viewing them, arguing about emptiness, and abandoning the holding of contradictory speech. Having separated from such twenty faults, propelled by the opposite meaning of Dharma, completely purifying in twenty ways, as before, the seventh ground is far away, and one becomes fully aware. In order to show the Dharma nature propelled by meaning, knowing the three doors of liberation, the three circles are completely pure, compassion and without arrogance, knowing the equality of all dharmas and oneness, knowing non-arising and forbearance, showing all dharmas as one, completely destroying all thoughts, abandoning perception, views and afflictions, definitely contemplating quiescence, and being skilled in insight, taming the mind and in all things, having unobstructed wisdom, not a place of attachment, wherever one wants to go, one can go to other fields simultaneously, and always showing the nature of self, these are twenty. Thus it was said.
