Since definitive understanding has not arisen, there is no direct perception, so it is not harmed by direct perception. Similarly, even if it is apprehended, it is similar to not being apprehended because it is not suitable for making statements, so this is not the nature of the object of focus. Therefore, it is not harmed by inference. Since it is distinguished by the term "ultimate," it is not a denial of things that are known conventionally, so there is no conventional harm either. So what is this? Since it is unreasonable to have illusion arising from no seed, one should not say, "How is this an imputed image?" For what connection is there between true and false illusion? For the moment, it is not its nature, because truth and falsehood are contradictory. Nor does it arise from it, because falsehood is not a result. Therefore, the immediate cause of this is only the previous conventionality, so there is no contradiction. The cause of that cause is also only the previous conventionality, because the causal continuum of such an image is beginningless, so there is no illusion without an immediate cause. If you ask how it is distinguished, then just as the nature of what is said is the true nature of things, so too is the nature of conventionality. What is it that, relying on other conventional causes, produces the conventionally established result of distinction? If you ask how it is conventional, it is called conventional because the thing itself that can accomplish a purpose cannot withstand the accumulation of analysis. In this way, correctness and incorrectness pervade all things, and since they are also of a nature that abandons each other and abides, when the nature of truth is negated, one naturally obtains abiding in the other. Therefore, this nature is made by all things in their own way, so there is no fault. Since the meaning intended without a reason is not established, in order to establish that all phenomena are without substance, if one holds to a reason, one is admitting its existence. If one vows that all phenomena are without inherent existence, one is admitting non-existence, so they are mutually contradictory.

Like vowing that one's own mother is a widow, this contradicts one's own words. Thus, because of the contradiction with oneself, the reason itself does not exist, nor do other things. If it is said that this would lead to the fault of infinity, that is not the case, because the very non-existence of inherent existence comes from that, and there is no contradiction with oneself, because the answer has already been given with "etc." Thus, even if there is no inherent existence, in conventional truth, since the relationship of cause and effect is truly established, it does not contradict the scriptures, so it should not be considered that it will contradict the scriptures. However, if one thinks that for those who say that things do not exist, since all things do not exist, it is difficult to avoid faults such as the non-establishment of a basis, that is not true. Like this, all the terms of inference and what is to be inferred are abandoned by the differences of dharma established by mutually contradictory tenets, but rely on the subject known even to children, and the reason and example related to it are established in the same way. Otherwise, if the reason, subject, or example depends on the tenets, then the subject distinguished by the difference famous in one tenet becomes the basis of dispute, so it is not established for others. In this way, since the subject with difference is not established, it becomes a reason with an unestablished basis. Similarly, since one's own nature is not established, its subject is also not established. Therefore, since it is impossible to know fire and impermanence, etc., from smoke and existence, etc., all the names of what is to be proven and what proves will be interrupted. Because only some things such as consciousness are established that contradict the nature of not being conceptual consciousness, etc., therefore this is reasonable. If someone thinks that for those who rely on the appearing subject to negate the imputed aspect, it is impossible to find fault with the non-establishment of the basis, etc., you want to prevent the appearing subject itself, so how can you escape the fault of the non-establishment of the basis, etc.?
