This is not the definitive conclusion that "it is only when there is a conceptualization of the apprehended that it arises." Therefore, those things that are similar to the nature of illusion and the entity of a snake, because they are the nature of appearing reversed and are related to the conceptualization of grasping, should be considered as grasping self-awareness. If there is a doubt as to why such a conceptualization, while grasping the object that is grasped, is also false, then it is answered with "It is like this," and so on. Those self-aware Buddhas, whether in a state of non-absorption or absorption, will sequentially not degenerate and not manifest. The words "in the form of the conceptualization of grasping" are incomplete, because the entity of conceptualization does not appear, and because it is easily deceived by being close to delusion. In this way, even though the conceptualization of grasping has not been abandoned, it is explained that this is the essence of the path of self-aware Buddhas. The words "like illusion and emanation" are used because they are only described as being similar in some aspects, so it excludes the statement that the nature of sentient beings is illusion itself. Incidentally, regarding the meaning of conceptualization, it is like the words of the noble Subhuti, "What else?" Are sentient beings like illusions? Is their reversed nature not an illusion? Therefore, saying that sentient beings truly exist is not a good teaching. To this, the sons of the gods answer with "Sons of the gods, sentient beings are like illusions," and so on. Some think that illusion, like the form of an elephant and so on, is not different from the substance of clay and so on, so it is not other. But it is also not non-other, because eyes that have not been deluded by mantras and so on do not see the substance of clay and so on as such. Therefore, since it cannot be said to be that or other, and it transcends the nature of things, it cannot be said that they truly exist like persons and so on. Because for children, this is a directly established and experienced object, so...

Just as with the recognition of ignorance and so forth, it is not possible to ascertain that it does not exist in the conventional sense. Therefore, whatever arises in dependence upon other things is of a nature that transcends the terms of "existence" and "non-existence," like an illusion. All beings and so forth are also of that nature. This is based on some facts that are widely known through the reasoning of self-nature. In order to prove those facts that are not known, the analogy of illusion is used. The reason is that those beings are also entirely of the nature of illusion. Therefore, in reality, there is nothing that can be called "mind." The two phrases "like an illusion, like a dream" are spoken according to the distinction of the states of being awake and not awake. "Non-duality" means that the essence is the same. How is that? It is said to be "indivisible," meaning that it is said in the case where there is nothing that can be divided into multiple parts, because everything is closely contained together. That is what they think. The meaning of this passage is: Because the essence of beings is false, therefore beings are like illusions, and therefore illusions and beings are non-dual and indivisible. Similarly, because they are like dreams, therefore dreams and beings are non-dual and indivisible. In order to illustrate this particularity, "Sons of the gods, all dharmas" and so forth are mentioned, which is a general expression. In order to distinguish, "stream-enterers" and so forth are mentioned. After thus showing universality, someone asked, "If the Buddha is like an illusion, then how can he be the cause of all perfections?" The answer is, "Noble Subhuti, perfectly complete Buddha" and so forth. Perfectly complete Buddha refers to the Tathagata of the Form Body. The answer is, "Sons of the gods, Nirvana" and so forth. Nirvana refers to the special Dharmakaya, the essence of non-dual wisdom, which is also like an illusion and a dream.
