And to have equanimity towards all sentient beings. Giving, relying on spiritual friends, seeking the supreme Dharma, always having a mind of renunciation, wanting to honor the Buddhas with joy, teaching the Dharma, and speaking truthfully, these are said to be the ten. Since these are inherently unattainable, one should know to practice them in this way. Thus it is said. Accumulating virtuous dharmas, doing the work of sentient beings, and having completely pure discipline in all aspects, completely abandoning the thought of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, not wasting the benefit done to others, having no mind of harming sentient beings, having no regret for completely maturing sentient beings, being willing to remain in the hells for a long time for the sake of one sentient being, prostrating to all beings, and from the Guru's side, understanding to accomplish and proclaim the words taught by him, without any other work, being diligent and joyful in the perfections such as giving. Such practice, like the previous one, is practiced with eight special dharmas, free from all the stains of keeping the precepts, so the second ground, the Immaculate Ground, is attained. It is also said: Keeping the precepts, forbearance and shame, great joy and great compassion, honoring the Guru with respect, the eighth is diligence in giving and so on. This is the Dharani. The intention to hold the Dharma spoken by all the Buddhas, greatly teaching the supreme Dharma without regard to gain and so on, and dedicating all the dharmas that purify the Buddha-fields to that, never being weary of mind for the sake of doing the benefit of sentient beings, and having shame and embarrassment when looking at oneself and others in relation to the thought of Hearers and Solitary Realizers and so on. Such fivefold complete purification, like the previous one, is done without thinking of self-nature, so that the third ground, the Illuminating Ground, is realized for the sake of making the light of transcendental wisdom. It is also said: Never being satisfied with hearing, giving the Dharma without material possessions, purifying all the Buddha-fields and

Not being weary of samsara, as well as what is called shame and embarrassment, and the five natures of not being arrogant. Thus it is said. Being separate from the attention of the Hearers and so forth, as well as not desiring the Bodhi to be obtained by the application of the object of focus, as well as not being arrogant even though one has obtained a special object, as well as completely not abandoning those who have a definite understanding of forbearance in the profound Dharma, as well as not abandoning all the precepts taken even for the sake of life, as well as not generating desire for sensual pleasures, as well as not having manifest attention to all Dharmas, as well as not having attachment to one's own body and so forth, as well as not being discouraged in mind when focusing on virtuous Dharmas, as well as not paying attention to all things, such purification, like the previous ten aspects, is harmful to the fourth Bhumi, the Radiant One, because it is close to the flame that burns the firewood of all defilements without exception. It is also said: Living in the forest, desiring little, being content, purifying, truly relying on discipline, completely not abandoning the precepts, reviling all sensual pleasures, abandoning Nirvana and all possessions, not being discouraged and having no views. Thus it is said. Associating with householders and renunciates for the sake of gain and so forth, as well as not relying on the homes of those with faith, as well as going to many people and so forth, as well as praising oneself and disparaging others, as well as the ten paths of unwholesome actions, as well as being arrogant with learning and so forth and not respecting others, as well as the evil wisdom of completing the six perfections and so forth for those who are virtuous and non-virtuous, as well as causing all defilements such as desire to manifest, such ten characteristics of Dharma are to be abandoned because they are obstacles to Bodhi, and with the opposite Dharma abandoned by meaning, with ten aspects of purification, as before, because it is extremely difficult to overcome, the fifth Bhumi, the Difficult to Train, is attained. It is also said: Closeness and attachment to home, as well as places that have become noisy, as well as praising oneself and despising others, as well as the ten paths of unwholesome actions, as well as being filled with arrogance and perverted, evil wisdom and
