The conceptualization established in the realm, the conceptualization established in dependent arising, the conceptualization established in purification, the conceptualization established in the path of seeing, the conceptualization established in the path of meditation, the conceptualization established in the path of distinction, and the conceptualization established in the path of no more learning. It is also said thus: "Substance and establishment, the grasping of what has a basis, is also accepted as two kinds. Self-mastery, self, etc., are the self-nature, aggregates, etc., are the basis, likewise." Having shown the four conceptualizations, now, in order to show the complete acceptance of the nature of the virtuous friend who is skilled in means, it is said, "One who newly enters the vehicle," and so on. "One who newly enters the vehicle" means one who immediately enters the Great Vehicle. "This" means one who enters especially with the distinctions of profundity and vastness, etc. "Apprehensive" and so on, the fear that arises from not abiding in it is apprehension, like a bad path. Constant fear is terror, because the fear that arises does not turn back. When terror is certain, it is possessing universal terror, which is synonymous with "not being discouraged, not being afraid, not regretting." "If one falls into the hands of an evil friend" means not distinguishing between conventional truth and ultimate truth, blocking the object of habituation from beginningless time, only teaching the scriptures to beginners, teaching non-arising, etc., which itself is the cause of evil that leads to the fruits of hell, etc., and abandoning the true Dharma, so it is an evil friend. "Falling into his hands" means becoming an object that can be accepted. In order to speak of the complete meaning from the perspective of reversal, it becomes very easy to speak from the perspective of compliance, so it is said, "If one falls into the hands of a virtuous friend." With skillful means such as not being discouraged and not being afraid, according to the thought, just as the queen of the landowner dies, gradually explaining all things such as selflessness in the manner of giving hints.

Being free from the Dharma of stinginess, etc., is what causes one to obtain the results of good destinies, etc., and is therefore a virtuous friend. Having fallen into his hands is as before. Whoever, to those such as Devadatta, etc., those beings, in order to benefit the perfections such as giving, in a way that does not deviate from the conventional and ultimate truths, as before, shows and instructs, etc. And whoever, to Devadatta, etc., in order to avert what is not beneficial to them, shows the actions of demons. How is it? It is said that the faults of demons, etc. The faults of demons should be understood as follows: in order to cut off the demon, having come in the guise of a Buddha, saying, "What is the use of unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment for you?" is to distinguish the meaning of the future. The faults of demons are these, saying, "What is the use of practicing asking about the Perfection of Wisdom, etc., for you?" is to distinguish the meaning of what is happening now. By the power of that distinction, in order to show the actions that I have done and abandoned in sequence, it is said that the actions of demons are like this, etc.

Relying on the order explained by Vasubandhu and others, and also in accordance with the verses of the Ornament for Clear Realization, explaining with words such as having profound meaning and arising from the heart, and similarly, common words also have special meanings due to the power of circumstances and so on, and because of the freedom to express what is intended, the use of words is such that the meaning as spoken does not contradict the scriptures, and because there are no words of negation, this explanation is in accordance with the scriptures. Therefore, one should not investigate how something that does not accord with the scriptures is explained. Otherwise, if one does not rely on this method, then it will not become an explanation of the scriptures, because words arise from convention and therefore involve multiple meanings, and if one completely clings to the individually determined meanings, doubt will arise. Furthermore, this is a written record of the explanations of the noble Asanga and others, therefore it should be taken as प्रमाण (pramāṇa, प्रमाण, pramaana, valid cognition). That is to say, even though the noble Asanga had comprehended the meaning of all the scriptures and attained realization, he still spoke many times, and with regard to the aspect of speaking repeatedly, he did not see the distinctions of the individual words, and because of the profundity, he did not speculate on the meaning of the Prajñāpāramitā, and thus unhappiness arose. Then, for that meaning, the Blessed One, the noble Maitreya, expounded the Prajñāpāramitā Sutra and composed the verses of the Ornament for Clear Realization. Having heard that, the teachers, the noble Asanga and Vasubandhu and others, also gave explanations, so it was later heard, and that is enough in passing. For those who are endowed with practice, there will certainly arise what is in accordance with the part of ascertainment, such as the path of seeing and other paths as explained, therefore, in order to show the immediately following nature of the Dharmadhātu that is in accordance with the part of ascertainment, the Blessed One spoke of "what is called this" and so on. For example, the Blessed One spoke of "what is called this, these are Bodhisattva Mahāsattvas" and so on, and whatever is spoken of as Bodhisattva Mahāsattva in other Sutras.
