Because fire is not able to burn. If there is no separate gathering, then the ability of both is acknowledged in meaning. To actually show this meaning, a question is asked again, so it is said, Subhuti, what do you think? Is this essence a word? Because it is impossible to turn the acknowledged meaning into something else, the Blessed One replied, "It is a word, O Lord." If the previous and subsequent moments, the various moments of the subsequent moment, do not follow successively and simultaneously, but are destroyed and unborn, therefore there is no mutual gathering, even so, when the condition itself, with the nature of being just this, by the nature of dependent origination, is born as having the characteristic of gathering, in relation to the first moment of the lamp and the tree, if it is not used, but only enjoyed alone, then by the power of the force of the causal relationship, the second moment and so on, which have the characteristic of being excellently proven, become the moments of the lamp and the tree. At that time, even if it is destroyed without a cause, because there are the natures of cause and effect, and the things to be burned and capable of burning exist. From the first and last moments, the essence is a word, that is its meaning. The meaning of immediately past is spoken by relating it to the situation at that time, that is, Subhuti, just like that, etc., it is easy to understand. If the transformations of the first and last, each cannot directly realize perfect enlightenment, then will I directly realize enlightenment all at once? The answer is, even those bodhicittas are not, so it is said. Even if many moments of mind arise simultaneously, those are not directly realizing perfect enlightenment, because the sutra says that sentient beings are each different streams of consciousness, so it is impossible, understand it this way. If that is the case, then is it others who attain enlightenment? The answer is, even others besides those bodhicittas cannot directly realize perfect enlightenment. Just as it was said, another mind different from the mind cannot directly realize perfect enlightenment, because it is impossible. Then, is it impossible to become enlightened in all ways? The answer is, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is

Etc., it is said. To show that the moments that occur one after another are needed close to each other on one object, and to take the form of a lamp as the main point, it seems that only a small amount of meaning is achieved by practicing enlightenment as before, based on the first consciousness. In order to generate the later consciousness that appears as a more special meaning than the meaning that appears to it, so the two bodhicittas, the bodhisattva can attain the supreme perfect enlightenment, which is its summary. As it is said, only through the metaphor of the lamp, one should also understand the eight profound dharmata. It is also said like this: The mind is not enlightened by the previous one, nor is it by the later one that eliminates ignorance. In the manner of the lamp metaphor, there are eight profound dharmata. It is said like this. By the way, it has been said. Now, in order to show the characteristics of the irreversible bodhisattva who is dwelling on the path of meditation. Eight profound dharmas To show which realm it exists in, so for the time being, showing the profound arising, such as "Subhuti, Blessed One, even the first bodhicitta", etc., in terms of conventional truth, if it is admitted that two moments can attain enlightenment, that is also unreasonable. Such as "Subhuti, what do you think", etc. From which aspect can enlightenment be realized in two moments? Which mind dwells in the previous moment and ceases, that, in terms of conventional truth, is it reborn in the second moment, or is it destroyed without following? If it is destroyed without following, then rebirth is impossible. Subhuti replied, "Blessed One, it is not like that." Because there is no result without a cause, so the function of the later moment is also established as the function of the previous moment is close through transmission, therefore, enlightenment can be attained in two moments, even in conventional truth, the function of the first moment is not the main one, which is its summary. Therefore, it is said like this, not through the previous and later moments, nor without relying on them, nor will a special meaning arise, this is called profound arising. The meaning of profound cessation is: Subhuti, what do you think? Any mind that arises is the dharma of cessation.
