The so-called syllable "pa" refers to the characteristic of being able to distinguish. Like this, five words are spoken. Explaining the nature of non-arising is: "Bhagavan, the Shravakas of the Bhagavan," and so on, is a supplication. Because the Shravakas related to the Tathagata are compliant later-born ones, they are born in accordance with the Tathagata. If one doubts, even if they are Shravakas, how can they be born in accordance with the Tathagata? The question is met with "Why is that?" Then, it is supplicated: "Bhagavan, it is like this." Because even if it has been determined that all dharmas are not objects of realization, they still truly proclaim emptiness. Therefore, they are born in accordance with the Tathagata, which is a concluding statement. To show that it is impossible to be born in accordance with the nature of things, it is said: "Sons of the gods, whoever says this," and so on. The so-called "because of non-arising" means that, in terms of reality, because of non-arising, it is non-arising. The Shravaka of the Tathagata, the venerable Subhuti, has followed that, and has followed the nature of that. The so-called "Suchness" refers to the master Vasubandhu having clarified that the nature of the Tathagata is only Suchness. How is it clarified? It is said: "How the Tathagata," and so on. Therefore, the venerable Subhuti means that because he has followed the Suchness of the Tathagata, which was just spoken of, he is born in accordance because of non-arising, which should be combined with the previous (content). Similarly, the following (content) should also be understood. If the nature of the Tathagata is attained through the power of meditation, and not through the dharma of things, then how can it be born in accordance? It is said: "The venerable Subhuti," and so on. The so-called "from the very beginning" means only from the very beginning. If one doubts that this is not reasonable, the question is met with "Why is that?" (Then it speaks of) the Suchness of the Tathagata.
