It is not that everything is defiled by afflictions, but rather that there are no afflictions. However, the power of inversion can completely defile everything and utterly destroy it. The so-called "without basis" refers to entering into individual certainty. In order to clarify the knowledge of the mind being free from attachment, etc., it is stated, "Those whose minds are not defiled by everything," and so on. The so-called "naturally luminous" means that in the state of ordinary beings, it arises from the cause of confusion. Therefore, even if the impure mind is in such a state, if its nature is measured by valid cognition, it will tend to realize the nature of no arising, etc. Therefore, once the antidote arises, it will not regress and will be able to eliminate sudden afflictions such as greed. Therefore, the naturally luminous and completely pure is only its own nature. Thus, first, the mind associated with greed, etc., and the mind separated from greed, etc., are generally explained. In order to explain the method in order, one verse such as "the mind abides" and two verses such as "the mind is well grasped" are explained. The so-called "abiding in the baseless" means that the baseless, which should not be abided in, indulges in the joy of entering into samadhi, etc. Because it becomes the cause of greed, etc., it abides and clings. "Subhuti, those minds are not to be taken, nor should they be well grasped," because for the mind that is distracted or suspects distraction, attending to things that should be厌恶 is the cause of tranquility; for the mind that is沉没 or suspects沉没, attending to things that should be喜悦 is the cause of well grasping; for obtaining mental equanimity, attending to things that are spontaneously accomplished is the cause of abandonment, which should be grasped. Thus, it is the cause of being free from greed, etc., so it is the mind that is well grasped. Or, one should not grasp what should be grasped, nor should one repeatedly grasp well. Generally, these minds and consciousnesses are explained by names, that is, in order, "the minds with outflows," etc., and "the minds without outflows."
