With solemn words, it expresses "things are just like this" without any distortion. The word "I" refers to personally hearing it from the Blessed One. The word "heard" refers to experiencing it through ear consciousness, and also because others besides the Tathagata do not have the ability to fully understand such Dharma, so it is incomprehensible. These three words were personally spoken by the Blessed One at the beginning of composing the sutras. Like this, after the Blessed One passed into complete Nirvana, due to being particularly interested in various meanings and distinguishing them in detail, the teachings of the Sugata are difficult to understand, and when the meaning of attaining Bodhi is not understood, in order to dispel the doubts of some people who think about how to organize it, and for those beings to be tamed, the Shravakas blessed by the Tathagata and others asked the Blessed One: "How should we correctly organize the sacred Dharma in the future?" The Blessed One considered that even if the content heard is not fully understood, hearing it without distortion will not hinder the correct organization of the sacred Dharma. Therefore, in the sutras for organizing the Dharma, the Blessed One said: "Bhikkhus, use 'Thus I have heard' to organize the sacred Dharma," and "Similarly, explain the connection and order," and so on. From this teaching, it can also be seen that words such as location and time, and words such as "The king of the gods, Indra, said this to the Blessed One," are all done by those who correctly organize the Dharma due to the permission of the Blessed One, so it will not lead to the fault that they are not the Buddha's words. In this way, the fault of mixing non-Buddha words into Buddha words is also avoided. Therefore, it is reasonable to organize it as it was heard. If this is done, why not say "So-and-so told me," but say "Thus I have heard"?

Then, establishing the debate, whatever is said, such as the Blessed One should not be a teacher, and other reasons, this will be shown to be not very beautiful. If the noble Ananda, in other respects, is held by the words "Thus I have heard," there are also sutras that the Blessed One, I, personally proclaimed, and there are also those proclaimed in the heavenly realm, and there are also those that have come down through transmission. If it is said like this, in short, regarding the sutra of the turning of the wheel of Dharma, where did the Blessed One proclaim it? Great Wisdom, you say! Son of the Sugata, you speak! After proclaiming this loudly, the noble Ananda, with his mind moistened by remembering the virtues of the Buddha, with a tearful face, with a voice pervading everything, said: "Thus I have heard," isn't that what he said? Then, how can it be said that hearing is directly perceived by the word "I," that is, by the word showing oneself? There is no fault in this, because what is shown by the blessing of the Tathagata is like a definite showing. Therefore, by its power, hearing from others is also like hearing from the Blessed One himself. Or, even if it is heard from others, because he is the foremost in upholding the Dharma, in order to ascertain the meaning, therefore he asked the Blessed One. Therefore, by the power of ascertaining the meaning, it is as if he heard it from the Blessed One, so he said, "I heard." Whatever is to be shown by the words "Thus I have heard," all that is

Because it has been shown that this is the path, it is shown that it is difficult to obtain. Or, the compiler mentioned in a roundabout way that at one time, someone heard this sutra, and at other times, others heard it, this is for the benefit of beings. The compiler, in the manner of a compassionate king of physicians, declared that he himself had heard it many times. Or, it means that it was heard in an instant. Just as in a dream, through the power of gods and so on, one can perceive a hundred years or so in a short period of time. Through the blessing of the Bhagavan, similar to that, from that immediate cause, which arose from the consciousness, the ear consciousness that manifests the entire meaning of the sutra, arose in an instant. Because of this, having obtained the inconceivable gate of liberation, all that I had to hear, I heard in an instant, and I have not forgotten it, this shows that I am a reliable person. Therefore, in order to guide other trainable beings, when later gradually entering the teachings, because it is not always possible to be in meditative equipoise, even if in the meantime there arises a mind focused on other objects, which is not shown, it is not contradictory to compile the sutra completely later. Because the wisdom of the Tathagata's fully manifested blessing is what was previously generated. Moreover, listening to this is because there is no satisfaction with the taste of the nectar of listening to the Dharma. Why haven't the remaining trainable beings become like this? If one follows the questions of the Naga King Ocean, the pure retinue of Bodhisattvas will become like that, but not for everyone, because they do not possess particularly excellent merit, so they do not have the ability to receive it in that way. Also, why does this difference occur in one teaching? This teaching is the nature of wisdom that appears as letters and words in conventional truth, and this, according to strength, arises once or gradually, so there is no fault. Or,
