etc. It is said that because he possesses great power and is perfect in patience, Indra is called a friend. Because the sons of the gods spoke well, the Blessed One said, "Kausika, you..." etc. Some may wonder, since there is no need to see it, why should one uphold the Prajnaparamita? To dispel this doubt, it is introduced with "Why is that?" and then it is said, "When the Asuras..." etc. Such an occurrence of the mind's activity is the discrimination that will be explained below. "To fight" means "to wage war." "To remember" means with the mind. "To recite" means with speech. Because seeing the benefits of the Dharma in this life, great joy arises, and in order to praise, one prays, "Blessed One, like this..." etc. Because it is well spoken, in order to recollect its meaning, it is said, "Kausika, it is just so..." etc. Some may wonder, why is the Blessed One the Great Vidya-mantra etc.? To dispel this doubt, it is introduced with "Why is that?" and then it is said, "Like this..." etc. Here, the concise meaning is: Because it pacifies all poisons of obscuration, the Buddhas of the past accomplished their purposes, therefore it is the Great Vidya-mantra. Because it is the cause for the future immeasurable Buddhas to attain perfect enlightenment, it is the Immeasurable Vidya-mantra. Because it engages in immeasurable activities, and is the cause for all present Buddhas to attain perfect enlightenment, it is the Immeasurable Vidya-mantra. In the age of the five degenerations, in the world of afflictions, it becomes the sole cause for realizing the King Shakya, therefore, in terms of liberating from samsara, it is the Unsurpassed Vidya-mantra. In order to distinguish the world from the ten virtues etc. up to the ultimate inconceivable wisdom, it is superior to all.

Because of the special continuum, it is the unsurpassed mantra. By the power of explaining the homogeneous cause of the Buddha-mother, even when the Tathagata does not appear, the Bodhisattvas, being skilled in wisdom and means, widely distinguish the ten virtues etc. in the world, therefore it is unequal, so it is the mantra of non-equality. When the holy Dharma of the Tathagata disappears, by the power of the Buddha-mother, the practice of Dharma etc. enters the world, therefore it is the equality with the non-equal Tathagatas, so it is the mantra of non-equality and equality. The way of speaking as mentioned above is knowledge. If it is not so, then what is the reason for the great mantra of the Bhagavati-mother etc.? By welcoming the necessity with "why", because the answer is given in the scriptures such as "For example, the mantra of Prajnaparamita is taught", nothing will be said. Therefore, those who conquer the great Asuras etc. and greatly bestow the fruit of accomplishing great meaning, Bhagavan, for example, this Prajnaparamita is the great mantra etc., those contents that are only declared in the first scripture, know that they have no important meaning, and the great mantra etc. are declared elsewhere. Therefore, do not think that the explanation as mentioned above does not conform to the scriptures, because the meaning of words comes from convention. It is enough to mention it in passing. The usual explanation of words should be told, relying on this mantra, that is, obtaining Prajnaparamita. Now, that is, today, is a synonym for the present time. The paths of the ten virtuous actions are to abstain from killing, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle talk, greed, malice, and wrong view, which are the paths of the ten virtuous actions. The fourth dhyana is the dhyana of the nature of the form realm arising from equanimity.

English
These are the four. Among them, the first dhyana is endowed with five limbs, namely: vitarka (initial application of thought), vicara (sustained application of thought), joy, happiness, and one-pointedness of mind. The second dhyana is endowed with four limbs, namely: inner serenity, joy, happiness, and one-pointedness of mind. The third dhyana is endowed with five limbs, namely: equanimity, mindfulness, clear comprehension, happiness, and one-pointedness of mind. The fourth dhyana is endowed with four limbs, namely: purity of equanimity, purity of mindfulness, feeling that is neither suffering nor happiness, and one-pointedness of mind. Some say that having the limbs of enlightenment means that it is mainly focused on the uncontaminated. Others explain that by the power of being completely grasped by the wisdom of skillful means, even that which is contaminated can equally enter as the cause of the limbs of enlightenment, having equal function. "To discriminate well" means to understand well. The four immeasurables are: loving-kindness and compassion, whose nature is to be without hatred in all places and times, wishing sentient beings to have happiness and be free from suffering in order. Joy is the happiness with the nature of inner ease for sentient beings who are truly practicing. Equanimity is being free from attachment and anger towards friends and enemies. Therefore, these are called immeasurable because they are focused on immeasurable sentient beings. The four formless absorptions are: thinking that space is infinite, thinking that consciousness is infinite, thinking that there is nothing at all, and perception is fruit and thorn. Non-perception is ignorance. This is peaceful, this is excellent, thinking like this: neither perception nor non-perception. In this way, focusing the mind, in order, are space, consciousness, nothingness, and the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, because the perception of form is suppressed, therefore it is formless, so formlessness itself is formless, because it accomplishes the equality of body and mind, therefore it is called the four absorptions. The six superknowledges are: magical power, divine eye, divine ear.
